Tyrus Thomas the 2nd coming of Stromile Swift

Both are out of Louisiana State University.

Both top five picks based on raw talent and the fact they could jump out of the gym.

Neither one of them will live up to their draft pick selection.

Stromile Swift never averaged 12pts for a season during his career. Nor has he averaged a mere 6.5 boards.

Complete wasted draft picks!

Look for Tyrus to have a similar career.

This is what you based on???

Tyrus is far better rebounder + Defender + Shot blocker and already came back with a improved Jump shot in his 2nd year.

Just because he is not getting solid minutes doesn't mean he will not be a good player. He is already a MUCH better player than Swift is right now (when given minutes).

It's not his fault that we have Ben Wallace and Joe Smith and also Nocioni taking up lot of minutes so that Tyrus can't even come in to play that much.

Our coaches have been in love with the Vets and they all get entitlement minutes even if they are not producing (see PJ last year, this year Joe Smith and Nocioni). There are not that many minutes to go around for Tyrus and our coaches love vets.

Don't even bother cool. All of the Bulls players are complete and utter garbage according to most posters on RealGM.

And all the Bulls player all have "potential" to be ALL STARS according to most...if not all Bull's posters on RealGM. But Cliff Levingston don't think so, could Cliff Levingston be a Bulls fan?

Anyways,

I think TT will eventually be better than Swift. The biggest difference between them is Swift doesn't have a brain.

They're both without a brain.

I still think TT could become a 16 ppg/9rpg/2bpg in the future..

I agree with the original poster.

Tyrus Thomas is an unskilled undersized low IQ player, much like Swift is. He'll have an average career because he's athetic, but nothing more. He can't even get minutes over a 48 year old Joe Smith...I mean c'mon man.

Not yet, IMO. Too early and too little of oppurtunity (regardless of why he hasn't gotten it).

I'll wait 2-3 more years before I begin to give up on him.

I definitely haven't given up on TT, whenever I see him play, I see a lot of potential.. He just needs consistent PT.

One thing I really don't like was his comments about the slam dunk contest last year, that really left a bad image of him in my mind.

Swift also lacks any type of intensity, which is one of Tyrus' best qualities.

Not really... Tyrus Thomas stated multiple times before and if I'm not mistaken even after he was drafted that he didn't really want to play down low, he wanted to be a small forward with a face up game...

I can't recall Slowmile Stiff ever saying something as dumb as that.

I have always liked TT. I think in the right system and with enough patience that he could become a player like Marion. The thing he needs to do is have a great work ethic to get there. If not, then he will end up like Swift.

Which might be the point of this thread (what is the debate here?). Some people think that his struggles are the fault of the coaching staff, some people think he is lazy, and some think that the expectations on him were too high anyway and he will never meet those but he probably won't be a total waste like Stro. He doesn't seem to have that "special" quality about him that makes you think he will really grow into something big time... some sort of drive to be the best.

It isn't really a debate just a comparison between the two.

Say what you want about Thomas and the reasons for his struggles but to me he is looking a lot like Stromile Swift. A guy with tons of "potential" (man that's a dirty word) but not much game.

He's a shorter Stromille Swift, I don't get why you would waste a #2 pick on a 6'8 pf with no jumpshot or post game.

He's actually got a respectable pull up jumper, Bulls don't let him use it.

Tyrus makes bad plays due to over aggressiveness.

Stromile Swift is just an idiot, he was a bonehead at LSU, and he never broke out of that.

He was actually a better physical specimen to be honest, similar athletic ability, much better strength.

People try to write off young players way to early. There's no way you can predict his career path at such a young age, this is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm curious why Thomas is seeing considerably fewer minutes per game under Boylan than under Skiles, when minutes for TT were supposed to be a big part of a Chicago turnaround.

He has all the wrong personnel around him. He is a perfect example of a guy that would benefit from playing with Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, etc.. As soo as the Bulls get a playmaker (Hinrich is an Antonio Daniels type at PG) and he gets some consistent minutes he will be a very good player. When Nocioni got hurt last year and Tyrus was seeing 20+ minutes per night he looked phenomenal and not many people were calling Paxson a fool for trading LaMarcus Aldridge for him.
