There's a good chance that these 2 teams will meet in the eastern conference finals. The play of the bench will probably be a major factor in determining who wins the series. Many have said that the Celtics bench is very weak while Detroit has one of the deepest benches in the league. In the playoffs, teams run at most a 9 man rotation. So which bench is better only considering the four players of each team below and by how much?

For the Celtics, House/Posey/Allen are pretty much solidified for a 9 man rotation. The big man spot is more of matchups, but Glen Davis has been the best out of Scalabrine/Pollard/Powe this season and he has the most growth potential and the season goes along.

For Detroit, Maxiell is probably their 6th man. Even though Hunter isn't playing right now, I think he'll be a big factor in the playoffs becuase of his experience and ability to change the game with his defense. Stuckey and Hayes probably fill out the 9 man rotation.

I'll stick with the Celtics bench overall, but I'd love to have Maxiell.

I guess Boston is better, but house and allen are both 2's. Detroit is a little better balanced. Either way, they are both **** benches.

I'd take Detroit's anytime, even with only those four player's, you are forgetting about Lindsey Hunter, Amir Johnson, Chuck Seimb, Arron Afllalo, all those player's will get playing time, they all together are more talented then Boston's, not just that but they even have more experiance and they younger! There guard's are alot faster then that of Boston's. Remember Lindsey in the game that Detroit won this matchup? He was huge, he brought fast defense to that old group of guards.

Tough one. I'd say Detroit at the moment. However if either (1) Tony Allen keeps getting healthier, or (2) Glen Davis continues to improve, I'd expect Boston to surpass them by the end of the season. Who knows if either will, but I'd say there is at least a 50/50 chance.
