If both players achieved MAXIMUM potential, who would be the better player today?

Vince Carter - there was no question of the talent he possessed. He was a very gifted scorer, and could get the fans to their feet without much effort. The knock on him was his passion for the game, as well as his work ethic.

Ron Artest - a combination of strength and speed, Artest possessed the physique many drool over. He is considered one of the leagues premier defenders, but his many offcourt issues got the best of him.

Vince Carter was MJ with a three point shot.

Carter's arguably the most talented wing to have ever played the game. The athleticism, body control, ability to shoot from anywhere on the court, strength, quickness and other characteristics are perfect.

Carter. There aren't many players that are more talented than a healthy Carter.

Artest plays both sides of the ball, Carter has NEVER played defense his entire career. Offensively he may have been comparable to MJ in his prime, but he was NOWHERE near the caliber of player MJ was on defense.

Odd as this may sound I think Artest is already pretty close to his potential. Defensively he's pretty much maxed out and he simply isn't the most gifted offensive player. He could get a little better if he'd be a bit more coachable and accepting of his role offensively, he was never gonna take that step from being a good offensive player to a great one.

His problems have largely been off the court. It's things like being suspended, arrested and all the other negative pub he brings on himself that holds him down - not what he does (or doesn't do) on the court. But as far as making the most of the tools he has, he's pretty much done that.

Vince on the other hand you look at and go "Wow...he coulda been soooo much better". The guy is damn talented.

The difference is Artest never had his mind.

This isn't close at all. Artest never had the talent and elite athleticism that Carter possessed. Carter would've been the GOAT.
