FANTASY-DRAFT 08! (CHAT HERE!!!)

Post#1 » by mudyez » Mon Jan 28, 2008 10:18 am

Image

proceding schedule after the final pick:

monday evening 3/3 at midnight the tradeperiod will end (3days) and no more trades can be posted after that...already posted trades can still be confirmed (would be great if judges would be around at that time)...playersighnings and waivings are not allowed anymore, as playoffrosters are set

the deadline also will mark the revealing of the randomized draftorder (I will randomize it after the deadline so it should be online about 1 or 2 hours later)

after that the GM's have to (can) post their textes, descibing how their team works and how they want to play their opponent...that should have been done until wednesday 3/5 evening at midnight(2days) so that the judges can do their judging until friday 3/7 at midnight (2days)

then we will move on to the second round with 2 days of texting and 2 days of judging again!

and so on...

(if a GM's doesnt post a text, the judging only is done by taking a look at the roster, which should be a disadvantage)

if you disagree with something your oponent writes about your tream or you want to do something different, coz your oppeonent, say, changes his lineup, you are free to!

TRADING!:

Trading players or Picks is allowed at every time but trades have to be confirmed by a judge.
If all 5 judges didn't confirm (therefore vetoed) the trade its officially off!
If no one shows up in time, to confirm your trade, you can assume that a trade would go through, but have to life with the results if it is not confirmed later (e.g. having to take the player, which the other team took with one of your picks). Its not that every trade ought to get vetoed, but it should prevent a GM from getting too much from a GM that isn’t serious about it or already quit.
There only can be equal amounts of players/picks switch teams (one for one, two for two and so on)!
You also can waive players or sign them from the free-agent pool, when the draft is finished. As I said, rookies can’t be waived but traded in order to keep the number of rookies at 16 no matter what happens!

Image

SEASON/PLAYOFFS:

The Playoffs are like in the real NBA but with the difference that we will have another randomisation to decide which teams will be seated from 1 to 8 in each Conference.
(That will prevent us from targeting to counter picks of our first-round-opponent, but to be prepared for different scenarios…which isn’t the way a real NBA-Team makes decisions)

Home court is seen as neutral.

Judges will decide which team wins and advances. (for all newcomers: its not about stats like in a usual fantasy-draft!)

Finally we will have a champion!

There will be some polls to decide which teams are most interesting to watch, have the brightest future and so on…judges will decide which teams are going against each other (I’d say 3 or 4 teams) and everyone (not only participants) can vote then!

But the focus should be on winning now!

O.k, I had some beef with the judging on the last one. But since my boy mudyez is doing this one up, I'll come in on this again.

I got Toronto.

To take the Lakers and participate? It's tempting, but couldn't it be all-time draft? Our last 3 attempts concerned current players, so it would be interesting to return to the all-time idea, where every single participant has a chance to select virtually flawless team.
But it looks like you prefer current version, so maybe I'll become a judge instead - if you want me, of course. ;-) Anyway, I'll decide after my Finals end, OK?

ok...myth...I'd really prefer a current version, as I dont know too much about the history of the nba (10 month ago I thought walt frazier was a middle of the pack PG...now I had to see, that he may be a guy for the all-time-12man-roster)

as for managing a team or judging....its up to you...but I'm sure you will do fine in both and good judges may be harder to find!

OK, great. Well, on one hand I am Kobe's fan, but on the other I've always felt bigmen are generally more valuable than swings and posted like this - also stating that Kobe and Duncan are 2 best players in the NBA - so nobody can accuse me I'm switching sides if building around Duncan and praising him. ;-)

yeah, thats just what I was thinking...but dont let this get out of hand and keep it a fantasie-draft-thread!

what are you guys thinking of the second randomization after the draft...the rookie-round...and the option to trade anytime?

One last remark on generals: I don't want to persuade you, just to underline that all-time draft is actually great opportunity for learning more about older players. But back to the topic at hand - your league - I'm not sure whether I like concept of neutral HC. So all opponents are supposed to play whole series on 3rd teams arenas - isn't it a bit artificial idea?

I just didnt like the hollow statement of: "Hey, I have homecourt, which should give me the edge!"...it has nothing to do with the teams itself and while it could have been seen as a tool to even the whole thing out a bit, we know, that lower seeds are not really disadvantaged and I furthermore have the rookie-round beeing a B->A round to make sure the lower seeds will have another goody to make them really strong teams!

I will change it, if some other guys feel better with homecourt-rules too!

I dont have a problem with giving the homecourt to lower seeds, but I wanted to eliminate somthing statements like the one stated above.

and after all, its not like they really are playing in a 3rd teams arena!

All time would seem like fun, get to learn and research more on older players, but either way I think I'm down for either, sign me up.
