TJ Ford vs. Jose Calderon

Who you got? Big argument within Raptors fan base. What do other fans think? Who would you rather have on your roster?

TJ Ford in November:
PPG - 13.9
APG - 7.3
MPG - 26.9

Jose Calderon in January:
PPG - 14.9
APG- 10.4
MPG - 38.8

TJ puts up similar stats with significantly less minutes. And in his last game (same game he got injured), he put up 26 pts and 8 ast in 29 minutes.

So who you got?

I'd take Calderon, but that's only because I prefer his type of player..I can see the argument for Ford though..he's definitely better at attacking the rim and penetrating/dishing..

depends on the supporting casts IMO..I think the Raptors should keep both, because they play different styles, and can switch it up when they need to..

What do Raps fans do think about this? i mean the more %, just wondering.

I take Calderon for my team easily.

Many think Calderon should be the PG for the future and that he's worked his way into the starter spot even when Ford returns and that he's exceeded Ford.

Doesn't seem to be a clear consensus. The Ford supporters are out spoken, and so are the Calderon supporters.

I'm a raps fan so not going to say who I prefer. Rather keep it to other teams fans. But they do both have areas where each one is better then the other. Ford-Defence, breaking down defences single handedly, getting into the paint. Calderon-Decision making, shooting, running half court sets.

People forget how good Ford is. Just because Calderon is lighting the world on fire. If I had to choose, I'd take Ford, because of the upside, and he's more likely to be the smaller contract after this summer.

One thing should be noted:

Calderon has had the opportunity to run the team by himself and play starter minutes. TJ has never had that luxury in his career with the Raps because Calderon has been an iron man.

We've never really been able to expose TJs true abilities because his minutes have always been cut significantly because Calderon is such a wonderful player.

This is quite easy.

I think the Raptor's GM and Coach knows more then RGM fans. Therefore, its the dude who starts on the Raptors.

If Calderon isn't even starting, what makes you think hes better then Ford?

Anyone who picks Jose has the "what have you done for me lately" mentality. If TJ is given the minutes that Calderon has been given the past month, he would be putting up 19/10.

The last few months?

From the Toronto Sun:
Mitchell has said when Ford does return to the lineup, he will come off the bench for the indefinite future.

I picked TJ Ford.

Why? Because Jose Calderon has more trade value.

Since BC blew it big time on his selection of Bargnani, we need to take a risk to take it to the next level.

You risk that TJ is healthy... or at least for the playoffs, and you trade Jose for a legit 5, or a legit scoring wing.

Thing is TJ is a game breaker...

When he is on he is our best player. When the guy is under control there is no stopping him. When he matures I have no doubt he is a 18+ PPG scorer, and a 10+ APG man.

He is an amazing talent, far more talented than Calderon. Although Calderon is so calm, and a wicked jump shot, that it's hard no to choose.

I'll keep both, but if I HAD TO choose, I'd keep TJ still... I still believe if he got starter minutes he would put up better numbers around 17/10.

Ad he is a difference maker. Look at how badly Kapono has been shooting ever since TJ went out. TJ can suck in defenders, and get you open looks.

If you don't think Calderon is a "difference maker" and an "amazing talent", I just don't know what to say to you. He could easily average 20 points a game, but decides to look for his teammates most often. And he's probably averaging more than 10 assists per game as a starter. It's really unfair and untrue to say that TJ is far more talented than Calderon.

Hes being so unselfish? TJ can score while putting up 10 assists a game thats the point. Calderon makes the safe plays and if hes scared to score then he is not going to be a top 5 pg like he can. Ford has ALOT more potential with the minutes he puts up the same if not better stats than Calderon does. Ford can take over games and carry the team on his shoulders, especially against the GREAT teams in the NBA. Just look at last year when Bosh was out, could Calderon lead us to a 500 record without Bosh? Nope and if you say yes your lieing through your teeth.

I don't want people to think im a Jose hater, because im far from it. I just have to defend TJ because people like to hate im and forget what hes done for this team. Jose is an all-star with starter minutes like TJ is, I just feel TJ is the better player and talent and will be in the future.

The thing is both players could be like 17 and 10 players with starters minutes.

One should be traded for a great wingman or a good young center

Calderon can score a lot easier than Ford IMO. Everyone always loves to use some excuse that Calderon makes the safe play, which is untrue. This guy constantly drives and dishes to open guys all over the floor. Calderon was a big part in our win over Boston, so to suggest that he can't carry the team or step up is foolish. If we didn't have Bosh, maybe TJ would be a better option for us, but Calderon works a lot better with Bosh and creates for him by getting him alley-oops, quick baskets, and a lot of looks.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I like Calderon because he's willing to get his other players the ball, but he can also step up and is shooting amazing percentages (FG, FT, 3PT). I guess you can somehow assume that TJ has more potential, but Jose's the better PG right now. If you want to downplay the success that he's having this season, you're the one who's lying through his teeth.
