1. Lebron - no brainer...

2. Paul Pierce - kind of a no brainer. He's having a fantastic season, playing at both ends and isn't showing any signs of losing a step.

3. Caron Butler - amazing season, complete player who will cont. to rise.

4. Richard Jefferson - being on a lousy team shouldn't taje away from the type of season he's having, he's proven he can play at this level.

5. Shawn Marion - He's never had to play on a team without a playmaker, so this should be a real good test for him. I think he's capable of being an even better player now that he'll have a larger role in an offense.

6. Josh Smith - DPOY candidate, continues to improve and is helping lead his team to the playoffs.

7. Hedo Turkoglu - looking like Peja did in his Kings days. If he keeps it up, he should be near the top of this list.

8. Gerald Wallace - Two way player and has really expanded his offensive game. Don't see him being a #1 or even #2 player on a team, but he'd certainly help some contending teams.

9. Andre Iguodala - Great athlete and playmaker. He's no good as a #1 option, but would be a nice sidekick.

10. Luol Deng - Dropped off from last season and still hasn't developed an outside shot. He could easily be at the top of this list if he gets healthy and his team back on track.

11. Tayshaun Prince - might be a little low, but he's not having that great of a season. Great role player to have on your team who comes up w/ big defensive players when you need it.

12.Mike Dunlevy - putting up nice stats this year, might deserve to be a bit higher on this list, but I havent seen enough of him so Ill just leave him here.

I thought so too, JSmith is the PF . . . . and hard to rank Marion any lower than 3rd; as good as Caron Butler has been, it's still not quite up to the level of an average Shawn Marion year; whether I would prefer Marion or Pierce would depend on the team needs.

Smith has played approximately 0% of the team's minutes at SF.

I don't know that I'd consider Smith a PF... I haven't seen a lot of Hawks but I just kind of thought they were starting two SF's.

Both players are about 6'9" and 230....

exactly!! smith is a small forward just a bigger version.

Right now Marion is 4th on my list.

Lebron, Butler, Pierce, Marion....

He's got the chance to move up for sure tho. New team new opportunities.

Butler has just been amazingly good at times this season.

Lebron and Pierce are numbers 1 and 2 for me. It's basically a toss up between Marion and Butler.

He's a PF, people.

Marion is more of a PF than Josh Smith.

Marion started at "PF" all season, does that mean he shouldn't be in this list?

If you want to rank Williams in your list instead of Smith feel free to do so.

I think the theory is that Marion will be the SF in Miami next to Haslem

If we're comparing Marion the player, regardless of position, versus Pierce, Butler and Jefferson, I might rank Marion on top. I know I'd rank him ahead of Jefferson and Turkoglu.

82games has finally listed Smith as a PF. Marion played a good chunk of his time at SF in PHX (27% of the team's minutes), Smith hasn't played any time at SF for the Hawks (0% of the teams minutes), he has played more time at center than small forward.

You always seem to have good numbers or something to back up your opinion Nate, why do you feel he's a better PF?

I think he's better at SF because his out on the floor defense is better than his post defense, his rebounding stands out more when compared to other shooting forwards than it does compared to other PFs and his outside shooting, at least from the three, keeps the floor spread unlike many other SF/PF types. Keeping an open mind until I hear your opinion though.

For two years running, Marion's PER at PF is in the 25 range, his PER as a SF is around 19. According to 82games.com, he does defend a little better at SF, but his advantage defensive at SF isn't nearly as big as his advantage offensively at PF.

The bottom line is that Marion gets the job done on the glass and with weakside shot blocking when he plays PF. Yes, his man-to-man post defense at PF is limited because of his size but that's really the only drawback. He makes up for it with a tremendous quickness advantage on offense. He draws opposing bigs out to the three point line in the halfcourt set, and he runs them to death in the open court.
