Both are HOFers, but not natural leaders. Dirk is more versatile on O, but Pippen can actually defend. Gimme Scottie.

Pippen was a much better defender. But him sitting out the final seconds in the playoff game because he was mad that the play was called for Kukoc... that pretty much soured me on him. Gimme Dirk, but he definitely needs a complimentary superstar around him.

As a #1 option? Dirk.
Otherwise? Scottie.

Dirk is not a HOF...
neither should be number one options either though. I take Pippen because he played defense, wasn't selfish, and is vastly underrated because of MJ.

Dirk is also easily a #1 option. He's led one of the top 5 teams in the league in scoring for several years.

Dirk is too clutch to pass up here, pippen is awesome but his stroke wasn't the best, he was like a Marion heavy. Dirk can shoot the lights out. I'd go Dirk.

To be fair, Pippen as a first option led the Bulls to 55 wins and the ECF... Dirk as a first option led his team to the Finals BUT Pippen didnt have a supporting cast that was as strong as the Mavs were that year....

Dirk is most certainly a number one option, you just need to put a post-up SF or PF next to him so Golden State doesn't happen again. He's a HoF-caliber player, an MVP (and legitimately so) and while he's been pretty girly in the playoffs for much of his career, he did stick it to the Spurs in '06 pretty badly and take his team to the Finals.
Pippen wasn't a #1 scoring option, not one good enough to make the Finals and have a shot at winning. He was an outstanding defender, a great passer/ball-handler, a very good rebounder and a very nice secondary scoring option but he was not the go-to guy on offense that he needed to be in order to be a dominant focal point star the way Dirk can be. He wasn't good enough as a distributor to lead a team ala Magic, either.
Scottie Pippen was an outstanding player but so is Dirk and he's a lot nastier on O and does work well within Avery Johnson's defensive schemes.

After watching Dirk unload what 4-5 consecutive threes on the Raps to pretty much being the Mavs into the lead after trialling by 24 at one time, I gotta go for the Dirk that does the work, Nowiztski.
Pippen is mean on D, but I like the O better than the D even though the D brings the rings, the O brings in fun, fans and ratings.
Tongue Twizler.

Dirk getting knocked out by the 8th seed after having the best record and an MVP season is worse than quitting.

Eastern Semi-Finals, not the ECF.
