i think gay has more upside but isnt even close to the leader roy is. i like gay alot but when it comes to whos the guy i want to have in a foruth quarter it would definently be ROY

Personally I have always favoured Rudy Gay over anyone else in that draft class. The kid has incredible tools and he is showing that he can now start to use them. His length and athleticism cannot go unnoticed and the fact that he already has shown some serious clutchness this early in his career gives me confidence he is the player I envisioned when I saw him play in college.

Rudy can shoot the ball and has shown the ability to work on the weaker parts of his game. The guy can flat out score and will be an absolute difference maker on both ends of the court. It won't be long until Rudy separates himself from the field imo. The fact that he is showing such promise despite playing in such a horrible environment speaks volumes to the type of character he possesses despite the fact that was his biggest knock coming into the league. Rudy will be a special player and I believe Roy and some others will be good too but my eye has always been on Gay and I think he is showing enough promise to support my stance.

Umm the whole assist/turnovers is a big part of this argument. You kinda make it sound like its just blah.

Rudy Gay averages 1.8 assist to his 2.3 turnovers per game, a ratio of .78
Brandon Roy averages 5.8 assist to his 1.9 turnovers per game, a ratio of over 3.

Rudy gay is a good player and I'd be stoked to have him but Roy is the better basketball player right now. Upside means nothing unless you turn it into production.

I like Gay's upside a little bit more, but I do love Roy also.

I think they both will be top 5 players in the league at the same time though at some point in their careers. They have stardom written all over them.

No question Roy right now. He's simply a better player, and a much better passer.

Of course, Roy is also closer to his peak than Gay. Gay, with his amazing athleticism and length, could be a Top-5 player in the league (something I think Roy will never be, though he'll certainly continue to be an All-Star). And Gay is two years younger.

For a team competing this year, I take Roy.
For a team competing for the future, I take Gay.

But certainly you can't go wrong either way.

I think Roy is on his way to being in the Steve Francis, Wally World, Glen Robinson etc etc mold where he comes in and plays well early in his career, gets a ton of respect and all sorts of hype for the future....before plateauing and/or regressing. Then, years down the road, people look back and scratch their heads saying "now.....why did we talk that way about him again......?"

I think he's a very solid guy. A guy that could average 20ppg for several years running.....but he isn't an elite player, he isn't an All-Star, and he certainly won't EVER be a top 5 player in league (lmao). I think its close between him and Gay, but I'll take Rudy right now and for the future. Gay has been a better, more efficient scorer, a better shooter, better defensively and more explosive overall. Roy's big edge comes from the fact that he has played some PG and is a pretty good passer. Still, Gay slightly wins overall right now. As the years pass, the gap will grow exponentially.

In truth, the only reason Roy has gotten as much pub as he has is because of the 6 week hot streak his team went on. Otherwise, he's been a very solid player for losing team with a lot of talent around him. Pretty similar to Gay, really.

-You're only referencing one thing: stats. It'd be the same as me saying "Roy is better than Gay in intangibles" and leaving it at that. By only presenting one argument, you're leaving the rest out--meaning, you implied that stats tell the entire story, at least to you.

I don't see why you're jumping on my case for saying "I never said stats tell the whole story" when your post contains ONLY references to stats.

If you'd said something along the lines of "Gay is better than Roy in most categories except assists and turnovers, however, Roy has better character, work ethic, and skillset", then... you're not only referencing stats, and no one would accuse you of saying stats tell the whole story.
