Easily the scrubs. Most of those players on Memphis would have trouble making the d-league.

you might as well just have used last year's Florida team; the Tigers aren't that amazing.

For those who have/will vote for Memphis, please don't take offense, but you clearly don't understand the concept of "relative competition." The worst team any of the scrubs play against is much, much better than any team Memphis has and will play this year, and much, much better than Memphis.

Every scrub is a better player than any of the Memphis players. Now, read that carefully. That doesn't mean they are more talented (they are not). It means they play the game better than anyone on Memphis' team, including Rose, who is the only Memphis player worth discussing in this comparison.

This comes up all the time. One of the many innovations Dean Smith instituted at NC was to have his highly-touted freshmen/sophs play his upperclasmen at the beginning of the practice season. Well, we all know that Jordan during his freshman year had more "talent" (again, not to be confused with player ability), than anyone on that team, including Worthy. Well, Jordan's fresh/soph team got waxed by the upperclassmen by more than 20. And it happened every year until early departures began depleting the upperclass ranks on the team on a regular basis.

Bottom line, one should never confuse "talent" with playing ability. See, e.g., Swift, Stromile.
Though Dr. J, Darnell Hillman, and Artis Gilmore's fros got most of the attention, George C. Trapp's fro should be noted for its bouncy qualities.

I don't understand this logic. You are saying that Eric Snow is a better player than Derrick Rose?

Yes. Again, for emphasis sake, I urge you to recognize the distinction between "talent" and "playing ability."

The level of play you see in the NBA is lost on a lot of fans. It was lost on me until I was about 16 and I got into a summer league. The team that had won the previous year had a couple of good high school players, some local guys, and a former CBA player named Earnest Jackson. For the 1st 25 minutes or so we played a close game with them. Then about halfway through the 4th quarter he decided to play and we were demolished. This was a guy who played CBA ball for 5 years and got invited to an NBA camp once. I think it was the Charlotte Hornets and he didn't say how long he was there, but he said it was the most fun couple days he ever had.

The point is that NBA players are the absolute elite, and every one of them would be a very good college player. So that long ass essay is my saying I pick the NBA scrubs.

i don't think it's that simple. So if Rose doesn't play one more minute of basketball until the draft and goes to the NBA, does that automatically make him a better player then snow? then martin? then smush?

yes memphis would get hosed but rose today is at least an average nba player.

OK, I'll give you that Rose probably would be the starting PG for the Cavs right now, but answer me this: Would Memphis have won the Tenn. game if you switched Snow for Rose? I think Snow would have salvaged at least 2 extra possessions per half, and what he lacks in shooting he would have made up for by setting up his teammates better.

Rose is not selfish by a long shot, but he is still learning how to manage a game. Make Rose an 85% FT shooter and my opinion might change. As it stands right now, however, Snow plays the position better. By the end of Rose's rookie year, though, he most likely will have surpassed Snow in every aspect of the game.

maybe yes maybe no. It's just inheritably wrong to assume just because a given NBA player is in the NBA as of this moment, it makes him better then every college player (or euro league player for that matter). While the NBA has the greatest collection of talent and great basketball players in general, the whole association does not have the best 435-450 players in the world at any given time. There's players in Europe who are better then a NBA player, and there's college players who could take some player's job right now. Just because they're not in the NBA right now doesn't make them inferior, what makes them inferior is their ability to play the game (and the ability stays the same regardless of if someone plays in Madrid or Milwaukee)
