I'll definitely take Kobe/Hakeem.
If they ran into Jordan/Ewing, Patrick would drop a brick... Hakeem locked him up so badly in the '94 Finals it was the most embarassing thing I'd ever seen, WAY worse than what he did to D-Rob. Robinson at least played a nice game on the offensive end but Ewing... man, he cost them that series far moreso than Starks in Game 7.

Hakeem >>>>>>>>>>>> Ewing
Jordan >>>>>>> Kobe
Hakeem;s dominance over Ewing makes it hard to beat. Even though Jordan is a much better player than Kobe, Hakeem makes it hard to beat. Now if it was David Robinson and Jordan vs Kobe and Hakeem it i'd take DROb and Jordan in a microsecond.

Emperical evidence says that you don't bet against Jordan in the playoffs when he is at the height of his powers.

I'd take Olajuwon and Bryant because I feel the difference between Olajuwon and Ewing is greater than the difference between Jordan and Bryant.

Yeah it is true Hakeem outplayed Ewing in the finals, but this isn't a two on two game. This is starting a team.

Hakeem and Ewing are much closer statistically IMO.
Hakeem vs Ewing
Also FWIW, this isn't a two on two. The OP said for starting a franchise. MJ and Ewing would have more success IMO.
No one was ever as good as MJ come playoff time. All Ewing has to do is get his 20 and 10, play defense and protect the paint. He doesn't have to worry about going up and beyond yet.

Well, to be fair, Hakeem and DRob are close statistically, but people agree Hakeem is better because he stepped it up when it counted and was able to lead his team to a title. Hakeem was
far better than Ewing when it mattered much. And say what you want about Ewing getting beat by Jordan, but in '94 Jordan wasn't in the way, so there was no excuse. 18.9 points on
36.3 percent shooting from the floor in the NBA Finals?
Hell no. Hakeem completely shut him down. And Hakeem only continued what he did during the regular season, where he averaged 33 points on 53.2 percent shooting, 16.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2 steals to Ewing

I couldn't pass on a team with MJ on it. Screw that. Give me Jordan and Ewing. Maybe Ewing plays better with teh GOAT on his side.

Jordan never faced any of the WC powerhouses with a dominant center, though. He faced Shaq's Magic in the East but they were poorly coached and had a couple of choke-artist roleplayers. Also, Houston did routinely beat the Bulls in the regular season, although that's a different game environment.

In the regular season, sure, they have their similarities.
I might point out that in the '94 Finals, Ewing shot 36.3% from the field on 22.9 FGA/g.
He was flipping AWFUL against Olajuwon, Dream totally put on a clinic while Ewing was left looking like a little fairy with no skills.

Because those powerhouses couldn't win the right to play him. You can't blame him for that.

You can say that again.

Sure, but that doesn't mean they'd not be more intriguing matchups. Just because they lost tougher series doesn't mean they couldn't take the Bulls.
The Utah Jazz cheated like mofos to get to the '97 Finals, that last screen Malone set where he BEAR-HUGGED Barkley wasn't even close to legal.

Well, you'd have to excuse me for believing the 69-13 Bulls would probably win a series against anyone else that year. Malone, Barkley, Kemp, Robinson whoever.
