88 has four guys that are probably in the top 10 of all-time and three guys that have legit arguments for GOAT. Those same three are basically undisputed as the best ever at their positions. Their 'weak link is a top 5 PF ever. Hard to go against that.

64 is really good, too, with all 5 being probable top 5 at their positions. 04 is also great with probably all five being arguably top 5 at their positions. But still 88 for me.

KG vs Bird is not even close to a tie, and I dont know how Barkley would "punish" Duncan

Jordan has never owned Kobe in a game... ever. Even a rookie Kobe dropped 33 on Jordan in Chicago. Kobe will never allow ownage even if MJ is the better player.

They put up games like that all the time, only there aren't as many rebounds available, so the raw rebounding number is lower. They grab that percentage of rebounds available quite often, though.

That's the problem, IMO, with using raw stats when we know numbers from the 60s aren't applicable to modern numbers without adjustment. It's why I went with rough all-time player rankings. I meant Pettit and Baylor's numbers go from insane to the more normal All-NBA numbers of mid 20s scoring and low teen rebounds.

I know I'd get crucified if I left the demigod Jordan off, but here's the team I would actually prefer...and I think no-one could put together a team that would beat them consistently in a 7-game series...

Correction: Kobe scored 8-11 points in 3 quarters with Jordan guarding him (16 overall through 3) and then had 17 points in the 4th quarter against bench scrubs as Jordan iced his knees in a blowout. LOL @ "rookie Kobe dropped 33 on Jordan." Revisionist history.

And Kobe has gotteen owned plenty of times by worse players than Jordan (Wade, Lebron, Pierce) -- why did he "not allow ownage" those times?

I don't think Jordan would destroy Kobe or anything, but your rationale is silly.

I thought long and hard about your team -- which is almost exactly the same as the 1967 version. OK, 1967 Baylor was more a jumpshooter due to injury, but West was better than in 1962. 1967 Rick Barry and 1962 Bob Pettit almost nullify each other, which boils down to Wilt 1962 vs Wilt 1967.

After reading "Wilt: Larger than Life", I prefer 1967 Wilt over 1962 Wilt. In 1962, Wilt took over 30% of his team's shots, which almost nullifies the input of all the others, and played sub-par D: remember, when he had his 100 point game, NY scored 147 points.

1967 was a whole different story. Wilt was Tim Duncan on steroids, averaging 24/24/8 with DPOY-like defense. His FG% was .683 (!!!) Also, Wilt was less egotistical than in 1962 (he took only 14% of his team's shots), and finally became a team player who trusted other guys with the ball.

But I fully understand your logic. Wilt 1962 was DIRTY.

97/98 is pretty hard to beat too:
