The Bad Boy Pistons are one of the best and most notorious teams of all time. If they played today, would they be better or worse off? They would be the hardest and most intimidating team of the NBA, hands down. You would be afraid to enter the paint. However, today handchecking is outlawed, and touch fouls are called. I can see many ticktack fouls called vs the Bad Boys, but also many called in favor of them, because Isiah and Dumars are GOOD.

Just FYI:

C - Bill Laimbeer: GOAT of dirtyness, but tough and a great shooter.
PF - Rick Mahorn: Co-GOAT of dirtyness, "McFilthy". Tough and hard D.
SF - Mark Aguirre: Mr. Do-It-All, a bit aloof but effective.
SG - Joe Dumars: quiet assassin and a defensive stalwart. HOF.
PG - Isiah Thomas: the head Piston, had guts w/o end. Feuded with MJ and survived it. HOF.

6M - Vinnie Johnson: "Microwave" is one of the best sixth men in NBA history.
7M - Dennis Rodman: rebounding champ, D in buckets, was even pretty sane at DET.
8M - John Salley: "Spider" was a great shotblocker and defender.
9M - James Edwards: reliable off-the-bench low post scorer.

yeah for real. laimbeer would last 2 minutes, mahorn would last 3 and Dumars and Zeke would also be out of the game pretty damn quick.

theyd adjust.. dirty or not, talent like isiah, dumars, rodman, the microwave, aguire, and role players with winning attitudes will win you 60+ games..

They wouldn't be finishing the game due to fouls being called...the nba has become soft unlike the rugged 90's.....

I'll actually take this seriously. For one thing, it seems like a lot of people are confusing being physical and being psychologically tough with getting at on of fouls called on them.

1988--Team Personal Fouls
League average 1977; Pistons 1957
1989--Team Personal Fouls
League average 1940; Pistons 1939
1990--Team Personal Fouls
League average 1907; Pistons 1961

So the Pistons were under the league average in fouls called against them in two years, and we're over it once--and were 10th in a 27 team league that season. Laimbeer and Mahorn and co. weren't getting more fouls called them; they were just fouling harder and sending a message. I'm thinking that people who are commenting are basing their comments on reputation; they didn't actually see the Pistons play.

In terms of the team...I think they'd be a lot like the Pistons from 2004 to now. About even on D; maybe slightly better on offense. I think the league as a whole is weaker now than it was in 1988-1990, so I'm thinking the Bad Boys would win more than a couple of rings in the 2000-current era. The 1989 Pistons against the 2005 Spurs would be something to see.

1. James Edwards started and Mahorn was the 8th man while Salley was 9th.


I watch CP3 and i truely wonder what Isiah could do in todays rules. The Pistons have plenty of offense (avg 105ppg after Aguirre trade)

With so few bigmen that post up on the low block I wonder how much the Bad Boys image would be needed. They are used to playing against Hakeem, Mosses Malone, Ewing, Parish, ect.. Going against Wallace, present Shaq, Big Z and Bogut maybe they dont need to be extra physical to compensate for talent. Laimbeer might be the equal or better of any C in the NBA.

as for Laimbeer, Warspite, without great low post scorers to play defense against over the last few years other than Shaq and maybe Yao, his lack of footspeed and mediocre offense would make him less valuable and probably not a lot more valuable than Rasheed Wallace. Now, if you project them forward with all the new, young, low post threats coming into the league . . . then his value rises again.

Not only would they foul out of every game, they'd be called for so many flagrants that they would forfeit their NBA paychecks.

Isiah would be a rich mans Chris Paul in this era and Dumars would lock down the Kobe's, Arena's, of the league. They would be the top team in the NBA and Zeke would be the best player in the NBA.
