Is Dwyane Wade better than anybody?

Seeing as how he always comes up short in every single poll involving him, I was wondering what RealGM thought? Where exactly does Wade lie in the NBA? Is he better than Tyronn Lue?

This isn't a troll thread at all. I don't post here often but when I do I mostly try to be constructive and stick to plausible evidence when I make statements. You rarely(read never) see me go other teams boards, bash other teams, bash other players. I've just noticed a RealGm trend and that's that Dwyane Wade always loses in player comparisons, no matter who the other guy is. I'm just wondering where he lies in the hierarchy of talent in the NBA.

He shouldn't even be in the NBA.

Any player who has been through a recent injury will get such scrutiny. For the last couple seasons now McGrady has been thought of as washed up. Only his play recently has people reconsidering.

This isn't about Wade per se..

But a lot of us are getting sick of the obvious non-calls he recieves in his favour and how the NBA is milking the kid for everything PR related. IMO, next season we're going to have the same conversation about LeBron.

Blame the NBA, their ref scheme and their marketing team. They are trying to make Dwyane and many others look better than what they are. Which isn't fair to the fans and isn't fair to Wade and others as well. At some point unrealistic expectations will surface and those players will feel some very unnecessary pressure.

Let's look at Dwyane's game for example. His defense is abysmal at times and at best under average. He doesn't have 3pt shot nor a deadly 20-footer. What he does extremely well is cut to the hoop and create shots in the air. Hell, he's probably the best at doing that. But to go from there to him averaging close to 11 free throws a game is beyond ridiculous. He should be seing 7-8 at most and not get the benefit of the calls the majority of time. He often initiatives contact with defenders going straight up in the air and still goes to the line.

National announcers doesn't make the job any easier, saying Wade is a 'top defender' and a true '2-way player'. So far only Hubie Brown (that I can think of) has come out and said Wade is a terrific offensive player, but in order to reach greatness he has to become better defensively.

Casual fans in general are hurting the NBA since they believe every BS comment that comes from commentators. Ergo, people believe Wade is a top defender even though it's painfully obvious that he isn't. So the die-hard NBA fans (who has a better understanding of the game mostly) gets the short end of the stick.

So this isn't really a question about Wade. It's more of a question about making a player better than he really is. I would use the same argument against Steve Nash 2 years ago, Kobe in 04/05 and Dirk Nowitzki in general.

Morten Jensen, that's a very fair breakdown. I understand what you are saying. As a longtime NBA fan i agree completely. The officials really give benefit of the doubt calls to all big name players, see kobe, bron, ai, WADE, tmac. Dirk Nowitzki was really pushed by the media to be something more than he is, resulting in that absurd tarnishing of the MVP reward last season. Its all about marketing and anything that sells or has the potential to sell gets exploited.

Wade is better than many players, Kobe and Lebron aren't two of them though...

As for whether Wade is better than Tyronn Lue... Overall I would say he is, but Lue is more durable and a much better shooter. He's also on about the same level as Wade in the clutch (he's slightly better but age is starting to take it's toll on him).

Lue looks better, too.

On RealGM, the player having the best week is the best player in the NBA. It's ridiculous.

He's better than TMac at dissapearing once his team is out of playoff contention. ;)

Seriously though, it doesn't help his cause that he is on the worst and most underachieving team in the NBA and he has shown no ability to lift them up like a player like Kobe or LeBron would. Wade and 4 D-leaguers in the East should have a better record than the TWolves out West.

Yeah and whoever the media is jacking off at the time as well. The media is the wolves and most fans are the sheep. If people in the media said Tyrone Lue is the best player, most wouldn't even hesitate to agree.

There are great players in a bad situation and great players in a good one. It doesn't necassarily mean one player is better than the other because of it. It has some to do with the motivation factor as well. Kobe has been playing out of this world since the trade, while Wade is probably depressed and doesn't have any hope no matter how good he may play. If Wade is scoring 35-40 points, the Heat would still lose and they have multiple times with him doing this.

He's good and all but the only player that lights up m beloved Cavaliers more than Lue is Jamal Crawford. So sure he's a star and all, but he's no Tyronne Lue
