Between, terrell brandon and sam i am who's the better player in their prime and who do you want on your team?

Brandon has many solid years on the Cavs prior to joining the Wolves.

Cassell's prime lasted longer, but I'd have to say that Brandon's was better.

Brandon's first 3 years he didn't get starters minute, same with Cassell's first 2 years.

Brandon's Prime started in his 5th season and lasted till his 10th - 6 seasons total (that is, if you generously count 2 injury shortened seasons in 97-98 and 99). He had 4 healthy prime seasons.

Cassell's prime, you could probably say started with his trade to the Nets, and say that it lasted 6 1/2 seasons, though Cassell surrounded those 6 1/2 seasons with more consistant and better play than Brandon did.

If you compare their numbers.

Cassell, slightly better fg%
Brandon, slightly better 3 pt %
Brandon, slightly better FT%
Cassell scored a little more
Cassell was a marginally better rebounder
Brandon was a fraction better, Assists per 48 minutes
Brandon has noticably fewer turnovers, Brandon has a career 3.1 assist to turnover ratio. I'm not sure where that stands in the record books, but that's pretty darn good.
Cassell has a career 2.46 assist to turnover ratio. That's one of the most important stats for a PG.

Brandon was also a better defender. averaging 1.58 steals per game over his career compared to Cassell's 1.09 per game.

Brandon got 2 allstar appearances, Cassell got 1.


and for the record, Brandon was a better pure PG than Cassell too. (at least from what I remember).

Career Efficiency, Cassell wins 16.6 to Brandon's 15.8, but I'd still take Brandon.

Better pure PG.
Better defender.
Better assist to turnover ratio


and sure, on the Wolves, Brandon had KG in a tough west.

But on the Cavs, he lead a team consisting of support players, Chris Mills, Danny Ferry and Bobby Phils to back to back 40 win seasons.


I'd like to post who they were traded for, as both were involved in a couple trades, but I don't remember enough specifics.

Interestingly, both guys ended up on the Wolves and had good seasons after getting to Mini.



But if you just go on skill and prime, I think you have to take TB over ET. He wins fairly easily.

Career, because of Longevity, well, i still have a soft spot for the better player with the shorter career, but Career, I'd reluctantly have to say Cassell, cause they were close enough that Cassell's longevity wins out.

Wolves had both, I go with Brandon. If he was not injuried he would have had a couple more years left in him.

Brandon was a beast. I'd pick him.
