Jordan vs Bryant (final minute)

Post#1 » by DarkoMilicic » Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:01 pm

There is exactly 1 minute left and a jumpball about to take place at halfcourt. The score is 93-93. Michael Jordan is jumping vs Bryant. They have both played well, with Jordan obviously winning statistically.

The Teams:

Jordan's
PG. Jamal Tinsley
SF. Bobby Simmons
PF. Pau Gasol
C. Andrew Bogut

Bryant's
PG. Jason Kidd
SF. Danny Granger
PF. Jermaine O'Neal
C. Shaquille O'Neal

All players are current day, except Jordan and Bryant, both whom are in their prime.

And the question is what, exactly....which team would win?

Kobe's.

If it is only 1 minute left I'll take my chances with MJ especially if it is in the playoffs.

Hadn't thought about that, but Kobe's team has more weapons/options.

Wow, I love team basketball but nothing would ever make me pick against Jordan, not even a Shaq- Kobe reunion

I don't think I made myself very clear. He is playing with a modern day Shaq and rest of teammates. The only players that are in their "prime" are Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

I'll take Kobe's team. Even though, Jordan would cut the score to 1 or even 0, I don't think a combo of Bogut and Gasol would stop anyone to the rim.

A motivated, healthy, present-day JO is roughly equal to a motivated, healthy, present-day Gasol. Same goes for Shaq vs. Bogut, but when it comes to PGs and SFs, Kobe's team obviously has a massive advantage with Kidd and Granger.
If the question was simply "which SG do you want for the last minute of the game?" I'd take Jordan pretty easily, but as you phrased it, I'll take Kobe's team.

Guys, read it again: 'Michael Jordan in his prime'

Is there really anyone better than prime MJ?

I choose MJ hands down. Greatest player of all-time.

Jordan is the best player on the floor.

Though he is better than Kobe the drop off isn't big enough to offset the talent discrepancy when you look at the rest of the team.

Pretty sure Kobe's team would take this. They have more weapons.

Jordan's team takes this imo. You're talking about the final minute, when the stars make things happen and decide the outcome, not a 48 minute game (in which greater talent would usually prevail). And despite the fact that the overall talent on his team is less than on Kobe's team, Jordan would still be playing with more talent than he's ever had alongside him.

I'm not betting against Jordan with good talent around him in the final minute of a game.
