I was listening to my satellite radio and this discussion was brought up on ESPN or NBA Radio. What 2 players would u pick in the NBA History for a fantasy basketball team, if you could start with any 2. I know one of them picked Wilt and I forgot the other. I would pick Oscar Robertson and Wilt. What 2 players would you.

No it wouldn't. I think Magic Johnson put better fantasy numbers up than Jordan, Besides points, steals and blocks. He may have said Shaq.

Wilt and Jordan pretty easily. They dominate all normalized aggregate statistical metrics. Lebron will probably be in this group one day too, if he keeps up his current level of play for the next 6-8 years.

Yeah, I guess that's why Jordan dominates Magic in every aggregate statistical metric. Plug their respective numbers into any "fantasy basketball" system and tell me what you come up with.

I'd put Oscar and Jordan right below them.

Obvioulsy Wilt when he averaged 50 PPG and 25 RPG and Oscar when he averaged 35, 11 and 12 are good choices... but really I only look at players in the more modern era (i.e. when they started recording blocks and steals and put in the three point line)...

My picks of the modern era are:
I like Olajuwan and Jordan from the 80's... huge impact on steals and blocks:

Olajuwan (89-90) When he averaged:
50.1%, 71 FT%, 0 3PT, 24.3 PPG, 14.0 RPG, 2.9 APG, 2.1 SPG, 4.6 BPG and 3.9 TO

Jordan (87-88)
53FG%, 84 FT%, 0.1 3PT, 35 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.9 APG, 3.2 SPG, 1.6 BPG, 3.1 TO

here was an article that came out that basically broke down the 1st and 2nd teams in NBA History based on a points scale. Is it totally accurate? Well of course not, but it is much better than just an opinion of someone because it is based on things that the players themselves have accomplished and their body work.

NBA MVP awards won (five points each)
NBA championships won (five points each)
All-Star Games selected to play in (one point each)
All-NBA first-team selections (two points each)

Where do they find these geezers that thing the 80s are the modern era. Jordan and Hakeem, why not Mikan and Petit? Clearly the greatest of the modern era are LeBron and Kobe, or maybe Chris paul.

FWIW, that point-based article is massively flawed, since All-Defensive squads only began in the 68-69 season.

Prime Kareem and Magic or Oscar comes to mind as a pairing.

Wilt and... anyone else, really, comes to mind.

But I'd like to have seen what Wilt would have done with Jordan, given the Kobe/Shaq dynamic and the Dream/Drexler pairing... and the Shaq/Penny and Shaq/Wade pairings, really.

I think Wilt/Lebron would be wildly entertaining.

But I think I'll "settle" for Wilt and Magic.

It balances out with everything as their were only 2 rounds for most the 50's and 60's and the stats for rebounding were impacted heavily by pace.

Hmm, I don't know if it balances all that well, to be honest, since it doesn't really look at totals, only averages.

I'll go for Jordan and Russell.

Second choice would be Kareem and Magic, which tells you how amazing Showtime was.

Woohoo, Jordan/Russell Top 2 is getting some love... Glad I am not alone here.

1968 Wilt assures you of winning assts, rebs and Blocks. In a 8 cat league thats huge. his 24ppg is not bad either.

DRob is also a great choice. 4bpg, 12rebs and +20ppg paired with Stockton 3steals 14assts and you pretty much have 4 cats. Johns FG% also helps alot. Finding scorers is pretty easy so MJs 30ppg is not so essential. Pippen on the other hand could be as valuable.

oh God, missed the whole "fantasy league" element of the OP . . . of course Wilt is one . . . need to know if you are calculating stats adjusted across years for things like pace and if you are able to somehow calculate Wilt's blocks. Also is this a one year thing or across a period of time?
