Can anyone describe to me Blackman's game, and how he compared to his peers?

This guy to me seems very underrated. Looks like his game was complete - nasty midrange J, great FT shooter, quick and pesky defender, finished well at the basket...I don't see many holes in his game.

How was he defensively against some of the better guards of his time (including Jordan) ?

I didn't see much of Blackman. All I know about him is what it says in his profile in this big book I have of basketball players. About the only thing I can tell you is that he was a pretty good player.

Good defender, good player, not great range on his shot but all his other skills were very solid. He's like Kevin Martin now in terms of recognition, one of those guys who are up there among the better guards but not quite up there enough for All-NBA recognition or people's all time lists.

i know dirk just past him 2 or 3 weeks ago on the mavs alltime scoring list, and he's one of the only 2 people to have his # retired for us (unfortunately brad davis is the other)

He ended up playing with the Knicks in the early 90s when they were loaded. Too bad Pat wouldn't put him on in Game 7 when Starks was shooting us out of the game.

Overrated NBA player. Reminded me of Jeff Malone. Pretty much a one-dimensional offensive player. Mid range jumper and not a lot else.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Oddly enough he was a black man.

Jeff Malone was a very good player. I prefer Blackman, because Ro played some pretty good D...but Jeff Malone was a smart (kinda rare for a lesser D guy) and useful player. He deserved the two All Star bids.

Blackman was steady. penbeast has it about right; he didn't excel at anything, but he was above average in most areas and well above average in some. Great mid range shooter, terrific free throw shooter. Very durable. I like the Martin comparison. When he was younger, Cat Mobley was a little like Blackman, but not as good.

No matter what...if you're a good enough player to get over 17,000 career points, the odds are way in favor of you being very good for a few years.

Is this supposed to be in green? Balkman is average at best.

TruLA or Penbeast, any recollection perhaps on how Blackman did against Jordan, Glyde, Scott, etc?

Rolando Blackman was the man. Simular in league stature and somewhat in style to Rip Hamilton IMO.

Blackman was a good defender, and not great, but ok in everything else. Durable. He was one of the few guys who could at least make MJ earn his points.

Blackman was a rich mans Rip Hamilton or a poor mans Kevin Martin. He was a #2 option on a title contender. I saw him as a step above Byron Scott (although Scott was a better athlete) on the pecking order. In Motta system the SF is the #1 option (Aguirre) and the SG is #2.

Derrick Harper and Rolando Blackman are one of the most underrated Back courts in NBA history IMHO.
