Jackson was a nice player, roughly at the level of Andre Miller, though Miller is taking on more of a scoring and less of a playmaking role since the trade. He racked up a ton of assists by being consistent and healthy over a very long period of time. Nash, however, is a game changer. Not close.

I've always said that Mark Jackson had the greatest court vision of all time with the possible exception of Magic. Unfortunately, Jackson was below average at every other phase of the game. He couldn't penetrate. He couldn't shoot. He couldn't defend.

The fact that Jackson ended up with so many career assists is a testament to his brilliant court vision. The guy had eyes in the back of his head.

Obviously, Nash is a better player.

Mark Jackson doesn't really approach Nash's value, even qualitatively.

Mark Jackson was partly responsible for the 5-second rule because he killed ball movement and tempo with overlong post-ups just like Charles Barkley. He was also a comparatively weak shooter.

Steve Nash is one of the best shooters in NBA history and equally effective in the half-court or in transition; he's also a quick-hitting player within the scope of the offense and a much, MUCH more dangerous scoring weapon than was Jackson even at the height of his career when he was an All-Star.

Jackson was terrific when it came to penetration, but everything else was lackluster for him. Nash wins this by a big margin, with his 3 point shooting, and playmaking.
