Duncan is less spectacular but has better timing on help defence and doesn't jump on fakes.

Hakeem
Duncan
Robinson

Olajuwon was very plainly the best of the lot but Duncan's spent a decade anchoring one of the best defensive teams in league history even with significant roster turnover... and he's not even close to as athletic as were either of the other two in their primes or even during their decline periods.

Robinson was a great defender too but Duncan is sort of like a slightly more athletic Patrick Ewing on defense; much more technically sound than either Olajuwon OR Robinson but not explosive enough an athlete to let it really show in BPG (also partially because of suppressed MPG) or on those aggressive shows on pick-and-rolls. He just quietly gets to everything just in the nick of time to deflect drives, challenge shots, close out on the baseline, trap in the corners, etc.

Hakeem, he was one of the best defenders in league history. He was fast, athletic, and moved like no other big man. Duncan has to be 2nd on this list, because his defense has been consistent and unlike Robinson had helped him win 4 championships.
