The young point guard from France is developing more and more, and although formerly people said he was just riding Duncans coattails to glory, that is rarely heard anymore. The Spurs are quite pleased with him. A three time champion(2003, 2005, 2007) Two Time All star (2005,2007) One time finals MVP(2007) and has married Eva Longoria(Priceless)

Monta Ellis is a player capable of exploding for a large amount of points in a short amount of time. He can burn you in many ways. He was so good that he convinced Warriors management to trade Star Jason Richardson.

I'm going with the finals MVP Tony Parker, tony is a master at getting into the paint and releasing his high teardrop shot with uncanny accuracy. cry one for me tony....

I'll go with the upset - give me Monta Ellis.

I can't go against Tony after what he did to the Cavs in the finals.

tony is what ellis will be very very soon. not yet though.

Tony is better right now; I think it has to do with the fact that he's proven that he can perform at the highest of levels on multiple occasions.

Both of these guys have two really nasty scorers next to them (S-Jax and Baron, TD and Manu) but Parker's done it at every level the NBA has to offer and that's meaningful.

Ellis is a rising force, for sure, but he's not there yet and Parker is.

Monta.. if you go by career/chips its obviously Parker.. but I think Monta is a beast and comparable player now.

Yes, what I'm saying is just do't look at one thing about a player, for example his 2008 season(Kaman). Look at the total package, what they've done, what their doing now, and what their projected to do. Otherwise it would turn into people voting for Lebron no matter what or T.D no Matter what. (potential) (career)

I'd take monta over and over again
his mid range makes everyone worried and he's one of the best finishers in the league

Monta he's probably already a better finisher and his midrange game is money

have to go with parker...i love monta and as everyone said, his midrangegame is really great....but after all I take parkers advantage in speed, playmaking, experience and defense over monta every day

i agree on playmaking and experience, defense, i'm not sure haven't seen enough of parker.

yeah, Parker is quicker, especially with the ball. Most important to me is that Parker has been outstanding for several years . . . at a position where his body type is suited (Monta is undersized for a 2) . . . and has come up big in the biggest stage, the finals . . . . this shouldn't be that close and certainly shouldn't be leaning to Monta Ellis

I don't think you can definitively say that Parker is quicker with the ball than Monta...

This poll is about who would be the better player taking now and future into account. Monta is only 22 and he is already averaging more points than Parker has ever averaged in his career. They're practically the same height and weight...Monta is averaging 4.7 APG post all-star break playing exclusively at the SG position. Parker is averaging 5.8 APG while playing exclusively at the PG position.

With a bit more seasoning and more time at the PG position, I don't see why Monta couldnt surpass Parker.

Stringcheese, first thing:

Ellis is averaging +0.9 over Parker's career-high while playing on one of the fastest teams in the league compared to Parker, on one of the slowest teams in the league. I hardly think that's a significant factor, here.

And again with the assists, it's worth noting that Parker isn't a pure point and that the ball goes through the hands of Duncan, Ginobili, Barry, Finley, Vaughn, Stoudamire... all kinds of guys. It's an exceedingly well-balanced offense, not focused on anyone except in terms of initial facilitation of the development of the play. It's not like the system in Utah, which is keyed to the PG/PF tandem, or in Phoenix where Nash touches the ball at least once every possession and often at least twice if he doesn't end the possession with a quick shot in transition.

That said, on the topic of Ellis.

Jesus Christ.

I stand by my opinion that Parker's still better right now because he's more proven but Ellis is doing everything to prove that he's worth it. I got a chance to watch him again tonight against the Blazers and it just stressed how well-developed a mid-range game he really has.

Change-of-pace, step back to go forward, finishing with either hand, speed, mid-range jumpers... he's a scary collection of offensive talent.

Sam Cassell with athleticism comes to mind... really, really NASTY athleticism. And that pass he threw to Barnes for that pocket 3 in the second half was beautiful... he made Baron look bad all night, which is a scary thought.

Best of all, he was patient at the top of the circle, looking for the right play and occasionally resetting and coughing up the ball to S-Jax or Baron so they could do their thing.

I hate Golden State's offense because they basically seem to run a 5-out offense for isos and quick pick-and-roll/pops but MAN is Ellis nasty...

I think people have posted all valid points, Parker is a finals MVP, multiple Championship winner, all of 'em really.

Once Ellis develops a 3-ball, I think it's going to be hands down Monta. That's really the only thing that TP has a clear cut edge on him right now.
I', really happy to see all the recognition by the fans outside of Golden State that Monta's getting, especially considering all the TPs been able to already accomplish in his career.

Monta is going to be a great player, but I like the reigning Finals MVP in this comparison.
