Is Deron Williams' season being overlooked in light of CP3?

There is no doubt in my mind that Chris Paul is deserving of the MVP this season, since he's leading a tightly-contested western conference, and he might be putting up the greatest numbers of any point guard since Magic.
But Deron is not shying away, here. He is coming off a trip to the Western Conference Finals. The Jazz are definitely back in the playoff hunt in the West, despite increased competition. As a team they match up well with a lot in the West. But look at Deron's numbers. While his volume may not be as impressive as Paul's, his percentages are even greater than Paul's lofty standards. But isn't this to be expected from a guy who plays in a more structured system? Less production at a greater efficiency.
Overall, 19.3 points, 3 boards, and 10.5 assists is exactly what I'm looking for in my guy. If I can get it with the rest of the package, I'm in great shape.
But the most impressive part is that from the 1, Deron is shooting better than 51%, and an amazing .396 from three. That ranks with the best shooters in the game. Kobe has never even dreamed of these percentages. From the stripe Deron is hitting a cool 80%.
While Paul is the best ball theif in the game, Deron isn't so impressive with just over one steal. Still, his man defense has always been solid. He also has the size to impose himself, whereas Paul has to rely on his craftiness.
This is not a thread meant to compare the two. I believe the topic is tired. I just want to highlight how great of a season Deron is having for a point. It's one of the greatest we've seen in years, but its quite overlooked because of Chris Paul's MVP-like season and latent love from Nash's arguable MVPs.

No.
Deron's season might be being overlooked compared to Paul's, but this isn't really anything new. Garnett's year last year was overlooked in light of Duncan's. Jamison is having a great year but it's not getting much play compared to LeBron's. Kevin Martin is having a great season at the 2 but when Kobe is playing down the road at the level he's at, you're not going to hear alot about Martin.
So yeah, it's true, but it's just a fact of sports.

Deron Williams is a good player on a good team having a good season.
Chris Paul is a good player on a good team having a MVP caliber season.
No Deron isn't getting overlooked their are plenty of other good players on good teams who are also having good seasons.

I think Deron is indeed overlooked, this year. Last year, when it was a competition between him and Paul, that got Deron media attention. This year, in a stacked West, with Paul clearly outperforming him, Deron's been largely ignored. People are asking whether Paul has become better than Nash, but, isn't that a fair question to ask of Deron?
Deron's been out-fantasticked, and that makes him a media nobody. Still a great player, though.

His achievements this season aren't going to get as much publicity and notoriety since the player he's most compared to (Paul) is having a better season, and an MVP-caliber season.
I wish people wouldn't always associate Williams with Paul and vice versa. They, you'd all get to appreciate just how special a player Deron is.

He's clearly playing at an All-Star level and he's made strides since last year, but Paul's having a fantastic year and he's a story. As a result, some players have been overlooked. Baron Davis has been healthy all year and has been a comparable player, and there are a whole lot of others who are being relatively overlooked. It happens.

Paul is averaging 2 more points on almost 3 more shots, adjust it with Deron shooting % he's up there too in scoring, so Paul is ahead with 0.9 assist and clearly in steals but bcuz of his size I think Deron is better man to man defender. I'm hopping Paul wins MVP but Deron is putting comparable numbers on pretty good team as well and he's getting no media hype at all, that is making his season overlooked.

He's really not putting up comparable numbers when you pace adjust, or look at it deeper than just the surface stats(PER, win shares, ON/off).

I only said he's better than Paul bcuz of his size, not that he's good period. I don't think both of them are good defenders.

How is Deron Williams overlooked?
Chris Paul is healthy and the Hornets are mingling with the West's best.
Putting up 21 points 11 assists 3 steals and about 4 rebounds.
Clearly superior to Deron William's numbers, yes watching Deron Williams is a different story as he is a very tough and relentless player.
But what about Paul?
Hornets is one of the league's best teams... Jazz are very good too, but Paul playing healthy and Hornets as one of the elite teams, pretty much explains all.
Deron Williams is not overlooked... unless he is your favourite player and you are a Jazz fan. Clearly a lot thinks he is a very good point guard already who just missed out on his first all-star.

LeBron's guys are shooting 2% below the league average for their position. Kobe's are 3% below. Chris Paul's are 4% below.

I'm just judging by what I've seen in the games and Paul isn't great when it comes to keeping a guy in front of him when he is actually attacked. Something that doesn't happen often since he's rarely defending anyone good offensively unlike Kobe who usually guards others team best perimeter player. When judging defense stats can sometimes be misleading when you factor in defensive matchups. Paul not being good defender is just my opinion based on seeing him play, nothing else.

Paul guards PG's, doesn't matter who we play, and when Pargo comes in for Peterson, Paul guards the best of the two guards... so it's not a strong argument really. Kobe is a better defender IMO, but the stat is still legit.

if you made Deron the 1st option with volume shooting, he won't touch Kobe. And Utah is a top 10 team in pace whereas Paul's team is near the bottom in pace. If Deron is overlooked, it's for good reason: Paul is that good, and the league emphasizes the better players.

Yes, CP's season is leaving Deron Williams overlooked.
It's the same thing that happened last year, except CP3 was on the recieving end even though he was a better point guard then, too.
