For 2008-2009 season, Brand or Amare

Let us imagine: You have a contending team that needs a PF, both these two are available at the same price, which one do you make a play for?

If I have a center who can play defense I take Amare, otherwise I take Brand.

IF both are going to be 100% healthy, and playing as well as they can, Brand gives you similar scoring, similar rebounding, better passing, and much better defense - in short, I'd take Brand. Some will say Amare gives you way better scoring, but it's not true - Brand plays in a much slower system with a much worse PG, and still put up 4 consecutive seasons of 20.0 - 24.7 ppg, not far off Amare's 4 best seasons of 20.4 - 26.0 ppg, and Brand is also clearly the better post scorer.

BUT who knows how well he's going to recover from the ruptured achilles (haven't seem him play this season, maybe he looks fine?), and Amare's knees seem to be fine, so if we're taking injury risk into account, I'll take Amare.

Brand, because he's much better defender , but its really close call.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

I'll take Brand, Amare is doing some amazing things right now, but Brand plays both sides of the ball really well and is a legit low post presence.

I'll take Amare. Amare has been...unbelievable lately. He's a completely natural PF; there's no center in him. Brand simply CANNOT compete with Amare in the scoring department. Brand is consistently a 20 point scorer, with a 25 point career season, one year. Brand's TS% that year was .580%. Amare's this year, on a higher volume, is a FILTHY .655%.

Do you understand the monumental difference in efficiency there? And whats more, his TO Rate has gone WAY down this year.

The only reason Amare didn't score over 23 ppg last year was b/c of his slow start due to injury. Amare is a ton better offensively, pretty even in terms of rebounding, and Brand considerably ahead defensively.

I'll take the younger player who's still getting better, playing his balls off right now, over the just-off-injury, now aging big-man whose team isn't and won't be doing much.

I wouldn't have picked him, but I understand why did you picked him. Amare is phenomenal offensive player and he could only get better.

well if Steve Nash is on my team I take amare

I'd prefer Brand if we get the 05-06 version of him because of his defense. If I don't get the version of Brand we saw in 05-06, I'm taking Amare.

I'm big on both, but factoring in that Amare will continue to improve over the next few years, I have to take him. I don't remember seeing anyone that dangerous on screen and rolls in quite a while. Brand is a solid player, but I don't think he will give that MVP production he did a few years back. Amare is turning into the goto guy who can explode for 30+ on any given night.
