Pick the better player if you have a contending team right now and want to win this year and into the future.
Dwight Howard v. Emeka Okafor Did Orlando make the right pick?
Dirk Nowitski v. Al Jefferson Is Al Jeff ready for the big time?
Steve Nash v. Shawn Marion Who was the real Phoenix MVP?
Tracy McGrady v. Carmelo Anthony Is Carmelo on this level yet?
Have an opinion and take it strong to the hole.

Howard
Nowitzki
Nash
McGrady - Over the past 2 years look what McGrady has done with his team (without Yao) as compared to Melo. The Rockets have consistently been better.

I'll treat these as if I'm a GM, and can get the player for free:
Dwight - No explanation needed, better than Emeka in every way.
Big Al - I like my bigs to play in the post, and Al's poor d is somewhat countered by the fact that Dirk's d isn't that great either. Dirk is slightly better right now, but Al has a massive edge in the future.
Nash - Still the #2 PG in the league, and will be a top 5 PG for quite a few more years. Marion is a nice complimentary player, but the Suns are doing fine without him, and he didn't help the Heat win at all, despite putting up good stats. Also, if he wanted off a great team like the Suns, he is clearly going to be a locker room cancer.
Melo - When healthy, Tmac is great in the regular season, but injuries are a huge concern, he's getting older, and he has never won a playoff series. Give me Melo, for the playoffs and especially for the future. If Melo was on a different team, built more around him as the unquestioned #1 option, I think he'd be a more highly rated player.

Anthony has had only one playoff series comparable to what McGrady has done statistically throughout his career.
I don't know why you'd bring up playoff performances to knock McGrady when comparing him to Carmelo Anthony.

I should have clarified my thoughts a little better. It's not so much that Melo has done anything special at all in the playoffs (he hasn't), but at least he is young, and Tmac, in 10 seasons in the league and 6 playoff appearances, has never made it out of the first round.
My point was more that Tmac may be the better player, but he hasn't been able to transfer that into playoff success, and since Melo is way younger and way more durable, he is the smarter pick over Tmac. As a GM I want to win a championship, so if you don't give me youth and durability, you need to at least give me proven playoff success. For example, if the choice was Duncan vs. Melo, I'd take Duncan in a second, even though he's a lot older, cause he is a proven beast in the playoffs, and a few years of a declining Duncan is still more likely to win me a championship than a bunch of years of in-his-prime Melo. The same is not true with Tmac.
Also, Melo leading Syracuse to an NCAA championship makes me think he has a good shot of leading an NBA team to at least a deep NBA playoff run once he gets a little older.

T-Mac is better when he's healthy. The only problem is that he isn't most of the time.

Looks like 4-3 for TMac over Carmelo right now, the others look pretty cut and dried. Personally I lean to Carmelo. TMac is the better player now but he's played an awful lot of minutes and they add up.
