Who will be the better player over their respective careers?

Add Iguodala into the mix - same age as Roy, although he plays a fair bit of SF as well.
Anyways, give me Roy over Mayo - proven at the NBA level, a leader, and always makes great decisions.

Even tho i think Mayo is the better player, i take roy because he has heart and desire, and a good head on his shoulders.

Roy is a lot more mature than Mayo. He's not flashy, but he gets it done.

We don't even know how good Mayo will perform in his rookie year. Too early to determine right now IMO.

I take Mayo if they are both coming out of college, he's got better athleticism, and one thing I really like about him, is that he's one of the most aggressive players at the 2 guard spot, love when he plays that tough, tenacious D.

Hard to compare a guy who's already putting up All-Star numbers to a guy who hasn't even played in the NBA yet....so obviously for now you take Roy.

I'm going with Roy. He has all the things that make you a great leader, oh and then theres the whole talent thing.

Roy has the complete package. OJ is just a volume shooter

Both have very comparable stats in college.

Roy: 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal and a half.

Mayo: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal and a half.

Biggest difference, Roy was a senior, Mayo a freshman.

I'll take Mayo.

Steve Francis was a pretty good player at his peak. A glorified Steve Francis is a great player.

Dont forget Mayo's killer A/TO ratio of 0.96. Yeah he put up numbers, but he also turned that ball over more, and shot 44% to Roy's 50%. Just because Roy plays within his limits and doesn't stuff the stat sheet doesn't mean he cant.

Mayo shot almost 100 more shots than Roy in 33 games. What do you think Roy's line would be if he shot as much as Mayo did? Roy has always been a very under control, play within the team, kind of player. Just because the numbers look close, it doesn't always mean thats the whole story

Mayo will average better than 19-5-5, but then again, he has attitude problems.

Who would have thought Brandon Roy would be winning in a landslide over the PG hyped up since the 6th grade?

How times have changed.

Deservedly so though considering Roy is a proven young all-star and Mayo didn't exactly wow us as a Freshman.


But in fairness to Mayo, USC's offensive philosophy was atrocious and not necessarily indicative of what's to come from him.


Although he may be overhyped, he's certainly a talented young player. Roy has advantage of being proven, but perhaps if there's an advantage for Mayo perhaps he's a superior athlete.

Then again the Jordan esque move made by Roy in that one game, I don't know.

Perhaps Mayo's one edge could be if he can actually be a true PG.
He's also a guy who tries to take pride defensively with his best Kobe impression. (Although I admit I don't know what type of defender Roy is)

Mayo will be an interesting guy to follow but despite all the hype he's had, as of right now one would be crazy to take a risk on him over Roy.

He'll have to forget all that hype and prove himself worthy of receiving it before someone does that.
