Adrian Dantley or Allen Iverson
With Dantley apparently getting into the HOF, it seems this is a comparisom worth looking at. Both were players primarily known for huge scoring numbers but also guys who were frequently accused of caring about nothing else. Both were badly undersized for their style of play but dominated anyway. Dantley was superefficient, Iverson inefficient (though he improved after the no hand check rule put in); both drew a lot of fouls. Who would you rather have to start a franchise assuming you can get enough talent to make that franchise a contender?

AD had a remarkable 7-year stretch where his scoring average never dipped below 28 points per 40 and his TS% never dipped below .607.
I think this is a good comparison. Both are undersized volume scorers. Only AD is one of the most efficient volume scorers of all time while Iverson is one of the least efficient.
One key difference in Iverson's favor is that Iverson is a decent defender at the PG position. If you can find a guy like Eric Snow who can play PG on offense but defend SG's on defense, then Iverson does not become a defensive liability. AD was a defensive liability no matter what position he defended.
I don't know if AD's effeciency made up for his woeful defense or not. I suspect most people on this board will pick Iverson, but I don't think it's so cut-and-dry. AD was an incredible scorer. Clearly, better than Iverson.

My money says most people will pick Dantley here; lots of people believe in efficiency . . . loser has to say nice things about Etan Thomas getting minutes ahead of Brendan Haywood on the Wiz board
