Imagine you were the best player in the league. while in your prime, and currently a free agent. YOU"RE RINGLESS Right now, the Knicks are a 'dream team'. They have no egos and the league's best PG and center plus a killer bench, but haven't gotten though the 2nd round. They need that killer instrinct you can provide. BUT you'd have to take a drastic paycut(say you were making 14m) to about 5m to fit the cap
I'd say yes. if I was the best player in the L, i would get my money through endorsement anyway.

No way. If I'm the best in the leauge I don't want my teammates getting more than me.

See, if I was the best in the league, I'd take less to win a title, and probably end up making more through endorsements since you're good, and your team is good

There are some fools that want to play for the Knicks regardless of their championship capabilities.

Once players see the potential zeros, they get stupid.

If I was in my prime, I would go for the money. You never know how long your career will be so you've gotta make as much as possible.
If I was still ringless at the end of my career, then I might take a paycut to get a ring.

If the team was willing to go over the cap, I'd take a pay cut, sign a one year deal for $5 million, then resign a 6-year deal for what I'm worth a season ($15-$20) and go on to win multiple championships.

I like the way you think. I would do that but at the same time I am not a professional basketball player. Being from Cleveland I hope that Lebron doesn't think this way.

I believe you might want to talk to Joe Smith about that.
and in my opinion until I was over the age of 30 I would not even think about taking a pay-cut.

I'd take less money. There is a such thing as bonuses + endorsements.

Agreed your still in your prime you need to make as much as you can and invest it. NBA careers are short and I want to live large for a long time afterwards. Once your are truly set and starting to decline go for the ring.

You guys don't understand. It's not all about the money. There's this thing called pride. If you truly are the best in the L, you don't want to have to join a dream team. You want players to recognize your the best, you want players to come play with you, not the other way around. Rings are nice and all, but the best players always have ego's and will not settle and be pippen when they can be jordan.
