You got a scorer that Michael Jordan himself feared, and easily one of the purest shooters of all time. Who do ya got?

Mitch Richmond, better overall player
Also, I came along being into both in the mid-90s, but ultimately like Mitch more

Ray has been living off a 4 season stretch where he played out of this world. Mitch was just straight nasty his whole career. It is weird no one talks about him, Rice, Mashburn, or players like them who were on the cusp of greatness but never could get there. He was just straight nasty until he went to Washington, and then I never heard of him again.
Honestly, after having to live through the chucking of Jamal Crawford, I have begun to analyze outside shooters differently. This stat is brought up a lot with Crawful, but if you average more 3 point shots per season than FTs, then you aren't playing the game right.
The problem I have with Allen is the same problem I have with Reggie. If they shot more mid-range jumpers ala Rip Hamilton style, they would have been unstoppable, but they rely on 3 point shooting too much.

Don't have stats in front of me, but Ray beats the Rock longevity wise. But prime, I think I'll have to go with Ritchmond. Just as good a shooter, can score in many more ways than Ray, and more well rounded also.

I grew up idolizing the Rock

Richmond could do more offensively and defensively. Allen however, is the more likely to fit in on any team because of his ability to move without the ball and distribute the ball.

Ray can move without the ball, but he's only really effecient when an offense focuses on his off the ball movement with the degree that DET does on Rips.

Huh?
Is there something the stats don't quite capture?

People like to overrate past players too much, imo. I watched both play, and they are pretty much even imo. I give the very slight edge to Mitch, but these two are pretty much the same player.

Wow it's amazing how close they are statistically(career stats).

I have a slight preference for Ray cause I think he's a slightly better shooter.
But it's a tough call. Very close.

Well Ray is known for his shooting...what else?
Mitch is known for his scoring and defense. On those Warrior teams at least he had Mullin and Hardaway taking away from his numbers.

Could somebody describe Richmond's defense? I never got to watch him play, and from what is left statistically, I can't see how he'd be a significantly better defender than Ray Allen.
