Since a Wizard fan is adamant that Roger Mason Jr is a better player than Rodney Stuckey and thus Washington has a better bench than Detroit... I wanted everyone's opinion.

Who ya got? Who's better?

Washingtons bench:
Roger Mason
Nick Young
Dominic McGuire/Oleksiy Pecherov
Darius Songalia
Andre Blatche

Detroits bench:
Rodney Stuckey/Lindsey Hunter
Arron Afflalo
Jarvis Hayes/Walter Herrmann
Jason Maxiell/Amir Johnson
Theo Ratliff

I like detroits bench. Roger Mason Jr is a solid bench player but I am not sure I would take him over Stuckey. But it doesn't really come down to comparing just them two. Detroit has more valuable big men on the bench and a better rotation of guards.

Like I said in the other thread....as long as Gil is on the bench (6th man) Wash has the better bench.

Shouldn't one of Gilbert or Antonio be up there with Washingtons bench?
Probably Daniels.

And I would take Detroits bench.
There might be some reasons to choose Mason on this very moment, but I do think he will soon get blown away by Stuckey. Starting from next season.

Wizards with Arenas coming off the Bench. Pistons when Arenas isn't coming off the bench.

Maxiell is better than all the Wizards bench combined. last game vs. wiz he had 28 on 11-13 shooting. dominate.

But Gilbert won't stay on the bench, he's just working his way back into shape.

Pistons bench for me, their chemistry as a second unit is solid.

First of all, you forgot Arenas who EJ has already said will be the 6th man. So let's look at this player by player:

First Guard Off the Bench: Arenas vs. Stuckey:

Uh. Yeah...Advantage: Wiz

2nd Guard Off the Bench: Mason vs. Hayes

Arvis is still a scrub...Advantage: Wiz

Primary Backup Forward: Songaila vs. Maxiell

Songaila has been playing very well in the 2nd half but Maxiell wins. Advantage: Detroit

Backup Center: Blatche vs. Ratlif

Blatche has been disappointing lately but he easily wins this head-to-head battle. Advantage: Wiz

So when comparing each team's playoff rotations: Wizards win 3-1

P.S. Your third stringers (Hunter, Herrman, and Johnson) are probably better than ours (Nick Young, Pecherov, and McGuire) but except for Hunter none of them will probably step foot on the court during the playoffs except in the case of a blowout.

Eddie Jordan said he will come off the bench. Gil is not allowed to play more than 25 mpg.

Talent wise Washington's bench is far better. But Detriots bench players have the ability to change games in so many different ways so i'll take them.

And Washington's don't? The sixth man is a top 15 player in the league when healthy. Even with a bum knee, he absolutely took over that Philly game.

Mason just notched his 2nd 30-point game of the season.

Songaila has shown the ability to come in and provide a scoring boost with his mix of a good mid-range J, ability to score near the basket, and passing ability.

Blatche is a guy who can handle the ball, shoot the ball, block shots, rebound, and pass the ball. How many 7-footers out there have that type of skillset?

Sure, Maxiell provides energy and hustle when he comes in and Stuckey is becoming a good change of pace for Billups, but I'm not getting how the Pistons bench can alter the game in more ways than the Wiz bench.

I don't think it's fair to count Gilbert as our 6th man. Sure, he is right now, but health permitting, he's our starter.

When fully healthy, our bench is as follows....

6th man - Antonio Daniels
Role players - Darius Songaila, Etan Thomas, Andray Blatche, Roger Mason Jr., Nick Young (at times)
Bench warmers - Dominic McGuire, Oleksiy Pecherov

We are talking about the present. It is fair to count Gil as the 6th man because that is how it has been since it got back and that is how it is going to be in the playoffs. Thus, you can't include Etan as a role player right now.

I didn't include Gilbert because he's only played 13 games this season due to health and when healthy he's a starter.

I also didn't include Thomas since he's off with his health concern. The Wizards have played 11 guys all year, 5 starters and the 6 bench which I posted.

If you want me to remove Lindsey Hunter from the equation.... I'd be more than happy to, to help your cause here.

If you remove Gil from the bench, at a minimum you have to add Antonio Daniels.

I don't think people realize just how good Nick Young will be in a few years. Hell, he's already a hell of a scorer in limited minutes buried in a veteran rotation. He's a much better shooter than Stuckey, and is a lock to be a 20PPG scorer in a few years.

I guess you dont realize how good Stuckey will be in a few years. He is also a great scorer buried behind allstars but he is still earning his PT, unlike Young who cant seem to get much time off the bench even with Arenas out. Young may be the better shooter for now, but Stuckey is the better scorer. He is also the better defender, the more clutch player with the ability to take over games. I think Stuckey will ultimately be the better player but Im also biased as a Pistons fan.
