I've always thought this could be an interesting comparison. Dwight is better defensively while Amare is more advanced offensively. So how do you compare the two?

this is a joke.

dwight easily for me

he doesnt have a PG like nash, and he still is right up there with amare in offense.
defense isnt even a question.

Dwight because of his defense.

Dwight easily. Offensively, they are about the same because Dwight draws so much attention and hes one of the few big men whom you can surround 4 3pters with.

i understand those choose d12 over amare but it's a joke to comapre them in offense.d12 has zero low post moves and no Jump shot.

Thats kind of why I made this thread. Either people are underrating Amare's offensive game or overrating Howard. I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of Stoudemire, but I'm shocked to see the discrepancy in the responses so far.

Ok first of all, Dwight doesn't even come close to Amare on offense. The only thing Amare is missing is a 3 point shot. It's pure ignorance to suggest otherwise..

If u think that, u have never seen shaq play too much.

Howard because he can control the game more with his d and rebounding. Stoudemire, with his great midrange game, is probably more of a scorer than dwight right now, but dwight is more devasting down low, and stoudemire's offensive game doeesn't compensate for the things that dwight does better.

"no offense" doesn't really fit as a label for a guy averaging 20.7 ppg... :dontknow:

I mean, as a Magic fan, I hardly give a damn what he does on offense, whether he dunks on everyone or whether he shoots 20 footers... As long as he gets his points, and efficiently, it's good.

Amare this season was the 3rd worst in the league when it came to opponent PER. The only players worse were Milicic and Ivey. That is all.

That's probably why most people would take Dwight over Amare.

The difference in defense is much bigger than the difference in offense (BTW, it's debatable on which player has much more impact on offense)

Obviously you didn't know that Howard scores all of his points off of loose balls just coming to him and then him dunking them.

thats not totally true. Howard draws many fouls, has developed a decent hook shot, and slashes pretty well. He also works to get good position for layups and dunks. He also runs the break and is good on the pick-n-roll. And yes, he gets a lot of putbacks, o-boards, and loose balls...but thats not a bad thing, and thats not his only way of scoring, either.

You're probably being sarcastic, but Dwight only got 6.5 ppg off dunks this season. Dwight on the Suns=godly.

Shaq had a fantastic baby hook. Dwight's offense is still very raw, but his raw power and explosiveness make him solid offensively.
Anyways, this comparison easily goes to Dwight, defense is just too important when it comes to big men.

This is tough and you have to take advantages away:
1. We are comparing a Center and a Power Forward
2. High powered Suns offense creates more opportunities for them:
a.Giving Amare more opportunities scoring but also
b.Giving opponents more opportunities to score on him
3. Orlando doesnt have a true PG but they have a good creater in Hedo

So with that said.

It is tough to gauge Amare's defense but since he has moved to PF since the Shaq trade he has been tons better but not enough to compare. He played C in a bad confrence with bad team defense but Dwight easily gets the nod.

Dwight on the Suns would not be godly because he can't score from the high post. exchange Shaq and Amare for Dwight and Marion and it would be good but I dont think comparable. I still give Amare the nod on O. Extra: do not compare Dwight to Shaq because Shaq had a post repitoire that made him that undefendable. His speed, quickness, etc was incredible and didnt become the beast we remember in the post till LA years, in Orl he was more skilled until he realized he could just overpower everyone.

So now the intangables, Amare is the Suns go-to guy while Orlando this season has put it in the hands of Turk. Free throws when game is on the line, hack-a-dwight at 59% compared to Amare. Dwight easily best big in the East and still has potential. Hops are rediculous but consider Amare had microfracture surgery(successful nonetheless but not enough). Dwight led the league in dunks and Amare led the league in And-1s.

So who am I going with... I dont know but they will probably both be the best C and PF in the game soon.
