Jordan would almost certainly average 40+, but not because of a lack of competition so much as all of the new bullsh** touch-foul calls on the perimeter.

I wonder if you ever remember a thing called the "Jordan Defense." Basically it was as close to a zone as you could get back then with out it being called an illegal defense, and even then it still got called a few times a game when you played him.

People did this because it was the primary way to slow MJ down, you fill the lane, you bleed off your man and you block his cuts to the basket.

My guess is though Jordan's ability to get to the line would be higher, the zone defense would counter that in a pretty equal fashion. His stats would probably look exactly the same.

He was too smart for that and the pace too slow (in his own day and certainly now). When he scored 37 ppg, it wasn't on a terrifically successful team... if he took the shots necessary to score 50 on the sort of 50-55% shooting he posted in his prime (or the 48% or so he posted when he scored 37 ppg), it would be a disaster for his team.

He'd score 30+ most years and probably 31-33 fairly often but 50 is outrageous because it requires such a ridiculous usage rate as to totally detract from any chance at team success.

Jordan wouldn't even be a starter on most teams today. The players in his day just didn't have the athleticism to play in the modern NBA. After all, he didn't play anyone but 6'3 white guys.[color=green][/color]

He could get 40-43 ppg in the season. I could perhaps see him averaging 50 ppg in a few playoff series though. He wasn't too far off from that in the playoffs. He averaged 45 ppg a few times.

Wrong. At that time, Jordan played in an era where teams scored 130+ routinely. Basically, teams played defense like pre-Shaq PHX Suns and offense scored at will.

I see Jordan (age 25-29) averaging between 32.5-35 ppg on 49-52% FG (on the higher end of that FG% range with less ppg and lower FG% with more ppg).
