Both have been said from Charles Barkley at one point that they were the most talented bigmen he had ever seen play.

Coleman was the guy when Barkley played and Rasheed is the guy he mentions now.

Both are considered underachieving talented bigmen who seemingly are far more talented then the numbers they put up. Coleman put up better numbers overall but he like Rasheed, never seemed to give you that 110% mental effort.

But who do you think was the better player?

I HATED derick coleman.

Coleman was the better offensive player out of the two over there careers, but Wallace is the better defender and has emerged as the leader which is something Coleman never did I dont think, it all depends on the rest of the players on the team because niether are players Id want to build around.

Both wasted tons of potential. Coleman never made a strong attempt to be well conditioned once he was free of Chuck Daly, while Rasheed has let an amazing post game go to waste by chucking threes.

Rasheed was still the better player and wasted less talent. While he should have been a much better rebounder and shot more post ups, he still managed to be a major contributer on numerous contenders.

Coleman never did that. His attitude was disastrous, he was one of the defining locker room cancers of the last twenty years. Lazy and bad spirited to the core, his teams did better when he was on the bench or being traded. Truly, one of the biggest wastes in NBA history.

Coleman was never the defender Sheed was but was a more gifted scorer... the thing is that at least Sheed had some post season success at the end of the day and it is due to his leadership qualities. He is one guy you would want to be on your team in a knockdown dragout series.

Coleman would have been the best PF in the league with any kind of effort. Due to that lack of effort I'd go with Sheed.

I haven't seen much of Coleman but Rasheed is one of the most talented players I've ever seen. Though I just shake my head in disgust when he prefers parking himself beyond the perimeter instead of in the low post because his post game is one of the best in the league and his length and high release make it almost impossible to block. Rasheed for me.

Rasheed Wallace is like a 4-armed Dikembe Mutombo around the basket. I go with him.

Derrick Coleman is IMHO the GOAT PF that took about 78 games off a yr. If Coleman for some reason wnats to play and wants to win hes unstoppable. However that happened maybe 10 games his entire career.

Coleman was easily the more talented player. If the guy had any sense of work ethic he would have been the greatest power-forward of all-time.

I wouldn't say easily, but he would be in the discussion.

His post-up game, honestly, is top five in the entire NBA. He is virtually unstoppable on the low block.
His free throw percentage is admirable for a big man.
His three-point percentage, while employed too often, is a deadly asset.
His man to man defense is impeccable.
He boxes out perfectly.
He knows exactly where to be at all times.

The only problems are...he posts up twice per game. Maybe. He shoots too many threes, and often takes the shot he just faked. Since he floats to the perimeter, he rarely gets fouled. He only gets up to play against big name PFs, and often slacks against the rest. He doesn't hustle for rebounds. He is lazy, and rotates slowly on defense.

The man could play SF, PF, or C at an all-star level if he was concerned about conditioning, strength training, or sobriety.

Rasheed should have been KG with less passing and ballhandling, and better deep shooting.

If only someone that would harness these god given talents would swap brains with Rasheed and Coleman

I actually think Coleman had more natural talent. I mean Coleman was as strong as an ox, a great rebounder and like someone said basically unstoppable when he had his head in the game. Colemans career numbers are significantly better than Rasheeds.

I guess in a way, if you believe that Rasheed was the better player, I guess it can be conceded that he was the biggest underachiever too.

Rasheed had more natural talent and should generally be considered the better player.. Coleman was a waste also, but not as big as Rasheed is/was. The guy is downright unguardable when he wants to be, and at his age, that's a testament to his talent level.. The guy could've been top 5 all time..

Rasheed would be unable to end up top 5 all time even if he did work his hardest.

Detroit was happy to welcome Coleman back and he is doing great work in an economically devastated community so some of the comments draw a from me


Sheed also is beloved by Detroit Baskeball and gives quite a bit away to those who don't have much and I'm sure if he read this thread he would laugh and say 'I don't care what they think of me, my wife and kids know what kind of person I am'

Sheezzzzzzzz, the answer of who had the most gifts is Sheed by a large margin. Derrick took many games off and took his gifts for granted but Sheed's passion for winning has never been about ratings or rankings.

Nope you can't possibly measure it by STATS considering their personas
