Dirk vs Yao, who would you rather have?

Yao, no question. Younger, more dominant, better defender and MUCH more marketable.

Injuries swing this in Dirk's favor rather easily, IMO.

Not really. I'd rather take the risk on Yao with his injuries because he's the most dominant big man in the league who can take you all the way. If you go with Dirk, chances are you'll be good enough to stay competitive for some amount of years but you'll never be good enough to win int all. Yao's so dominant that he doesn't even put up the offensive numbers Dirk does? And I don't see how Yao is any tougher than Dirk or chokes any less.

Dirk he's a fast healer when he does get hurt but usually doesn't like Yao

Only 1 has been out of the first round.... 1 has been MVP. 1 has been to the finals granted he didnt do much there... But how can u not take dirk here? has he played with a guy of TMACs caliber. NO. Dirk & Mac would be the best 1-2 punch in the league.

Stat wise they are very close, Dirk has the higher PER the last few years but Dirk is a pure scorer, Yao affects the game in different ways, but Dirk in much better tested and proven than Yao, and way more durable, it's Dirk w/o hesitation to me.

Dirk sprains his ankle and comes back only misses 1 game... Yao misses 40 games every year... easy decision for me

What offensive numbers are you talking about? The whopping 23.6 ppg Dirk averages as opposed to Yao's 22? The fact that Dirk shoots .479 from the field as opposed to Yao's .507? Yao scores just as much as Dirk but with better efficiency, and this is factoring in the fact that Yao draws the most doubles in the league right now. Give me the two-way player that scores in the paint, not the jumpshooting 7footer. Everyone by now knows Dirk's a choker, the NBA finals, and then following up with the 1st seed loss against the Warriors.

Oh please, has Kobe led his team past the first round without Shaq? You need talent to win, and Dirk's past teams were easily superior to Yao's Rockets.

Yao's last 3 seasons: 58, 47, 55 games played
Dirk has played at least 76 games in each of his last 9 seasons.

I could deal with the injuries if Yao were as dominant as Tim Duncan or a prime Shaq, but he's not. He is still a very, very good center when healthy, he's just not truly dominant. He's a 7'6" post player, and he only averages 0.6 rpg more than Dirk over his career (career numbers: Yao 9.2 rpg, Dirk 8.6 rpg). Dirk is a better scorer and a better leader. Yao is also a turnover machine (3.3 to/g this year, 3.5 to/g last year).

If both were 100% healthy all the time, I'd take Yao by a slim margin, because elite centers are more important than elite PFs, but with the injuries, it's Dirk quite easily.

What does Kobe have to do with this? Yao has Tracy McGrady, who is better than any of Dirk's teammates... They arent good enough to get out of the first round?
