Who would you rather have if you wanted scoring?

Wow, is this serious? Yao Ming, and it's really not remotely close.

Easily Yao.

He can hit the jumper, just like West, but has a far better post game.

Also scores more at higher efficiency, and does not have the benefit of playing with arguably the best point guard in the NBA.

OMFG.. why don't you ask better the question of... Who is better? Wilt Chamberlain or Derrick Martin.

It's just a Rockets fan trying to get some recognition by comparing Yao to a player not on his level.

It's like a Jazz fan comparing Deron to someone like Alston and know that people will say Deron easily.

I'm trying to get some recognition? You're out of your mind. It was a legit question. Yao is good at offense but the most he can get even with a lot of passes is 25-28 pts. I've seen West explode on some nights and already matched Yao's career high this season. I'm comparing his scoring to Yao's nothing else. Just scoring...

Yao will always be more efficient around the basket if only for his sheer size, but he really doesn't have the sort of offensive versatility that West has...the kind of versatility that'll allow him to explode for 30-40 points on any given night. It obviously all goes back to the dramatic (and understandable) differences in athletic ability.

Right, because Yao has trouble scoring 30-40 points a night despite the constant and triple double teaming.

There was a stretch 2 years ago when Tmac went down for more than half season and Yao exploded for 35/12 for like 3 consecutive weeks.

2 years ago being the key word.

I'm not bashing Yao, its just pretty clear if you've watched the two that West has more offensive tools to work with.

IMO, West can get 40 on any given night. I think he would need CP3 more for it UNLESS he is on fire (but I mean that could go for anyone). I think he can get it on a hot stretch or something though.

If you want better scoring in a team setting I'd say clearly Yao, his ability and sheer size makes him a double team magnet which helps everyone score. He is also so big and skilled that even if the double comes he can still score from alot of his spots. I really like West but I can't think of really of much to swing it even slightly in his favor.

The last poster touched on the difference. Yao scores every time if it's one on one. He sees a lot more double teams and still scores over them. West is hardly ever double teamed, part of it is probably because he starts out 20 feet from the basket, but he just doesn't have the same scoring presence nor is he anywhere near Yao's league in that domain.

In the past couple of seasons there have been a few runs where Yao was healthy, and during those runs he was easily among the elite scorers in the league.

Especially almost the entire second half the season before this one...he was racking up 30, 35, 40 point games almost nightly.

West has been great, but this has to be Yao. Puts up a higher volume of points and more efficient despite garnering far more attention in terms of double teams.
