Who was/is better at the age of 22?

Shaq.
Dwight will certainly be better at 36 than Shaq.

Dwight has better work ethic. I also think Dwight will be a better old player than Shaq. Shaq was better, but that doesn't mean Dwight can't catch him one day.
By the way, this thread is pointless, it is only a carry over from the other Shaq Dwight thread

Dwight is definitely better defensively than Shaq was at the same age, but Shaq was the much better scorer.
Shaq averaged 29.3 PPG when he was 22 years old. Incredible.

+1, I don't see anyone arguing otherwise.

Comparably equal with shaq getting the nod if a gun was to my head. Dwight gets 12 shots and averages 23. Shaq got 20+ shots and averaged 29. Dwight is certainly better defensively.

How old are you. 10? 13? Do you understand what comparably equal means? Do you comprehend words?

No, but I don't think he's far and away better, either. He was a significantly better scorer, sure, but the rest of their stats are fairly even with Dwight being the considerably better rebounder and they played close to the same MPG.
BTW, it really wasn't necessary to make a completely new topic on this.

Shaq for me

I think it's a good thread because Dwight is easily the closest thing the NBA has seen to a young Shaq.
Honestly, this is pretty close for me.
Dwight is better defensively and NOT that far behind offensively.
If he had a superstar sidekick like Penny, I think he would average around 25-26 PPG.
This is really close for me; I love Dwight's defense, work-ethic, and leadership, but Shaq was just such an incredibly dominant scorer.
I would take Dwight, though. If he had Penny, his scoring would be higher and that's the only reason people would pick Shaq over him.

how old are you? 97? lost your memory there, gramps. you said 22 yr old dwight = 22 yr old shaq.

Cry about it kid. Kuz they are comparably equal. Shaq got 20+ shots and had a superstar wing scorer. I know you cant understand what Im saying to you sooo forget it.
Hooked on phonics bud.

Shaq, easily.
Dwight is great now and has a chance to be an individually superior player to Shaq because he works a lot harder, no question.
But there's a REASON a 22 year-old Sha got more shots; he was a more reliable player in the post because he handled double-teams with more aplomb and he was a better passer. He was a comparable defender, not a worse defender. Shaq at the time was a good defender, but nothing special. Comparable shot-blockers (Shaq was less than a percent superior in block percentage), Shaq turned the ball over less, had a broader offensive repertoire. Too, he was 2" taller and a good 30 pounds heavier, so he was a more difficult defender simply on the basis of size.
Dwight is good and because he is a harder worker, will stay in shape and is also generally a much better rebounder (a good 4% better ITO rebound rate at the same age, actually). He has a great chance to learn to be a better defender, is already a better rebounder and is learning offense pretty well. But don't forget that a lot of Dwight's offense comes from transition plays and lobs, not from isolation scenarios; that's a big difference. Shaq was well-known for his ability to score in isolation, especially off that dirty baseline spin.
Dwight's a very good player now, with a very good work ethic and he's very young; he's got all the potential for which one could ever ask.
But Shaq was definitely better at a comparable age.

Shaq pretty easily. That's not a diss to Howard either.

kid, listen. you said they were EVEN at 22. well there not, so go cry. you cant just assume if dwight got 20+ shots then he would be just as good as scorer. i know this isnt going anywhere, because you never admit defeat, or understand.
and the post above me just pwned you. nice try. GG.

Once Dwight learns to use his body offensively like Shaq did, nobody will stop him.
Dwight can overpower anyone, but he still seems raw at times.
Shaq was just such a dominant and efficient scorer and he made it look so easy.
Dwight has his scoring potential, but he's still raw.
That's the scary thing; he's only 22 years old and averaging 22 PPG.
With his work-ethic, he's only going to get better offensively.
But the potential is there; no question about it.
