Strickland came in with bigger hopes, but I se their peaks being similar.

I hate Strickland with a fire of 1000 suns... but he is significantly a better player compared to Alston. He was an unbelievable penetrator and passer in his prime. He also has amazing handles in his younger days. I never really remember Strickland having hops...

OMG, this is Strickland by a mile.

The guy once averaged 17.8 points and 10.5 assists per game! He was phenomenal!

Over a 5 year period, the guy never averaged below 17.2 points or 8.8 assists. Think about those numbers. They're sick.

I like Alston a lot, but he's never been able to muster 14 points or 7 assists in a season. He just doesn't belong in this comparison...

He also had a better feel for the game IMO. Both were with Miami at different times in their careers, Alston at the beginning, Strickland at the end. Alston had a problem controlling the flow of the game. He never knew when to run or when to slow it up. He would just force his way around the court. Strickland on the other hand, knew exactly when to run and exactly when to walk. He just had this innate feel for it.

Now, maybe Alston's matured since his time in Miami, and maybe Strickland was just as bad at the early stages of his career, but Strick always had better ballhandling, made better decisions with the ball, and ran a team as efficiently and smoothly as I've ever seen...

I hate Rod, but he wins this easily. He was a very solid point guard for a long, long time (led the league in assists for a season or two, as well).

Game 7 Semifnals

From the AP

The game was tied at 103-103 and San Antonio was working for the go-ahead basket with less than 30 seconds to play when Rod Strickland's no-look pass headed out of bounds on the Spurs' baseline.

But Portland's Jerome Kersey saved the ball and threw an off-balance length-of-the-court pass to Drexler, who was fouled from behind by Strickland with 26.2 seconds left in the game.
