Who would you rather take at draft to base a team around?

Howard. Hes a better rebounder right now than ewing already. Ewing in his prime was the better shotblocker/defender. But i think howard will def reach ewings level there. howard probably runs the floor a bit better than ewing.
On offense, ewing is the better free throw shooter, but howard is constantly at the line, which affects the other team alot. they both are decent at best passers. Ewing had much more range and more offensive moves than howard at this point, no doubt. ewing is one of the best jumpshooting big men ever, and could play in the low post. But howard is improving his footwork around the basket, and his low post moves. Hes also so aggressive around the rim- he wants to dunk all the time, which i think is awesome. Thats what i want from my genetic freak center.
With his upside and work ethic, its no doubt howard for me.

Bigger upside but not nearly as skilled. Ewing also played against much better centers. I'll take Ewing until Howard shows he can do more on the offensive end.
Ewings best statline= 28.6 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 2.2 apg, 4 bpg, 1 spg while shooting 55% from the field and 78% from the line while playing all 82 games. Those are some pretty incredible numbers.

Unless Dwight gains a shot and some post moves rather than just bullying everyone, he'll most likely stay at his current production level. How many more points can you get off putbacks and that one spin move in the lane he has? Dwight is good, but give me Ewing, because he's guaranteed greatness.

Ewing wasn't very skilled offensively when he entered the league, either, and he was 23 his rookie season (Dwight's still only 22). Dwight gets a little bit better every season, adds something to his game every off season, and I think will continue to get better and better.
I'm one of the few who actually thinks Ewing is underrated, and comes to his defense when others unfairly rip and critique him, but Howard, because of his amazing physical gifts, does have the higher upside and is already a damn good player as is. I'll take my chances with Dwight.

I think you're selling Ewing short. He wasn't quite the rebounder Howard was, but he's much better as a defender, shot blocker, and scorer than Howard is right now, and it will take a ridiculous amount for Howard to match him in that regard. Certainly, his career hasn't been written yet, but I wouldn't say that he "will def" reach Ewing in those regards.
As a side note, I wanted to comment on Ewing's athleticism before he got injured, even though it's not directly relevant to Howard's potential to overtake him. Ewing wasn't always the creaky old veteran with the terrible knees which he ended up being for much of his career. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B23Ki5px57g
He was more highly regarded than either Akeem or Robinson coming out of college, partly because of his skill, but also because of his athleticism.

Ewing was only All NBA first once in his career. Dwight's already the best center in the league in his 4th season.
lol people like you have said that for 3 straight seasons, while watching Dwight play maybe 2 games. Dwight is so much more than putbacks and one spin move in the lane offensively. GTFO

Dwight has improved his game every season thus far. Why do you think he'll suddenly stop adding new facets?
Unless Oden plays an NBA game, he'll keep sitting on the bench.
Unless Sam Vincent finds a new job, he won't be a coach next year.
Unless Garnett wins a championship, he'll keep losing in the playoffs.

I didnt sell ewing short. I said that ewing was the better shotblocker/defender and 1-1 offensive center. And i said that howard needs to improve those areas to the level of ewing to actually be better than ewing. To me, he will reach those levels, since hes not that far off right now anyway. He has improved dramatically since his rookie season, and his work ethic is great.
ewing was pretty raw out of college and was expected to be a great defensive center. He fulfilled that expectation, while becoming great on offense as well.
Again, right now, if i had to choose the better player, ewing in his prime or howard, id take ewing. But I'd take d12 with the caveat that he keeps improving and becomes more dominant in 1-1 offense (which i beleive he will).

You cannot honestly use that as an arguement. That's like saying Nash is better then Gary Payton because Payton only has 2 All NBA 1st teams awards and Nash has 3. To completely just overlook the competition at the position is just stupid and asinine. Dwight Howard's competition is Yao Ming (who plays 50 games a year), a 36 year old Shaq, and himself. He should be getting NBA first teams for the next 5-6 years.
