Kobe is a better more consistent scorer, this is a fact, Kobe is the best scorer in the NBA, T-Mac is not really in the discussion. Being clutch is also factored into this.

T-Mac is less selfish than Kobe, and is a better playmaker. Kobe is pretty good, but T-Mac makes the right passes pretty much all the time.

Kobe is the better defender, but this leads to the only difference between Kobe and T-Mac outside of playmaking and scoring.

Kobe has the killer instinct throughout, and he is healthier. T-Mac coasts most of the time, however, if T-Mac wants to, he is just as good as Kobe on defense(he shut down Dirk in 2005).

Injuries have made mcgrady give less effort on defense because he knows his team needs him on offense.

I would say, Kobe in the reg. season is a 95/100. T-Mac in the reg. season is a 85/100. HOWEVER, in the Playoffs, when T-Mac steps up his effort, he is 90/100 AT LEAST. He makes up half of the difference by just trying harder.

That's why when people say Kobe is on another level than t-mac it should be for the regular season and the regular season only. In the Playoffs, T-Mac is very close to Kobe.

Both can't win by themselves, T-Mac has never had the better team in the 1st round, Kobe has never won a first round series when he had the worse team.

Put T-Mac on the Lakers instead of Kobe and the Lakers would still beat the Nuggets in the 1st round. Put Kobe on the Rockets and the Rockets would not beat the Jazz either. T-Mac scored 26 pts in the 1st half in Game 6 and the Rockets were still down by 4 to the Jazz.

I thought that McGrady was as good/better than Kobe for a year or 2 earlier in the decade..but now? no..Mac's injuries have hurt him too much IMO..

McGrady: .478ts, .487ts

Then factor in defense, intangibles, etc, and its not close at all. McGrady is actually overrated

Um, I said that Kobe is a better offensive player than t-mac in my post, I don't get what you are trying to prove.

T-Mac can't make it out of the first round with Yao Ming [sans this season]. Kobe did it this season with Pau Gasol.

You were making out like the difference is closer than people realize, the stats show the gap is larger than people realize. McGrady is so overrated by his fans, its ridiculous. He's stunk out the joint in his last two post season, his efficiency has been god awful the last three years.

As a person who dislikes both players, I can assure you that Kobe is much better than TMac. Kobe is better at every single facet of the game than TMac is. And he has the 2nd round playoff births to prove it.

Rockets fans must be bored and looking for reason to start threads, because this one is laughable.

Both players have lost series with HC Advantage. Kobe in 2004 against Detroit and T-mac 2 years in a row against Utah.

Looking at the playoffs it would seem T-mac is better, however that is total production for their respective careers. If we wanted to really see then we should compare then by their numbers in the 1st round instead.

What McGrady did in Orlando is totally irrelevant, he hasn't been that player in half a decade. Therefor career statistics are useless.

The OP didn't specify if we were talking now or not. If so, kobe is clearly better. If we were talking career wise then that is why I brought up the numbers for each of them.

At this point of their careers, they are not even on the same tier...they used to be but not anymore.

I didn't know 2006-2008 constitutes half a decade. McGrady isn't that player anymore, but it hasn't been that long.

I think anyone watching kobe so far would agree that he has been playing unreal and godly. Just not even close for Tmac. Im sorry but there wasn't any day Tmac has been better than kobe offensively nor defensively.

Come on man, this isn't really a comparison anymore. McGrady doesn't do anything better than Kobe at this stage, the only thing that's comparable is their passing ability.
