Pau Gasol vs Carmelo Anthony, who is better?

Gasol is much better defensively compared to melo (and gasol aint exactly all-nba d). Gasol's length bothers shots, he rebounds well, and he plays solid post d. Melo is ehh on d, though i think he could be a lot better if he tried more.
I think gasol runs the floor better than most big men, but melo is almost unstoppable in the open court.
On offense, gasol is a legit low post scorer, great passer, has great hands, can play the high post, hits his free throws, hits midrange jumpers, and finishes well. Melo is an underrated passer, is a tremendous offensive rebounder, has a better midrange game, comparable inside game (melo slashes well and has an awesome first step), can hit the three, and gets to the free throw line at will. Melo finishes well, too. Overall, he's one of the top scorers in the league.
I'll take melo as the better individual player. He doesn't effect defense that much tho, and sometimes, i feel that he shoots shots just because he hasnt shot in a while...but i think thats just denver's offense, too. I like gasol on my team (which is nice, since im a laker fan lol) tho. Melo is better than gasol, but has a lot to improve on.

Melo is the better talent, but I'd take Gasol for the Heat
A core of Wade-beasley-Marion- Gasol would be toooo good to pass up

Both mentally weak. I'll take that back Melo is mentally weak. Gasol is just soft.

Melo is on another level. This Melo hate is getting ridiculous...

Both players are capable of leading a team to a first round exit. Gasol has better PERs and better defensive statistics (and is in fact a better defender). I voted for Melo, but to say he's on another level is ridiculous.

For the Warriors, Gasol easily. But for teams who need an explosive scorer or have a good big, Melo quite easily. Neither posesses the mental aspects of becoming great players, although Melo has the talent.

How is he on another level? Even if we disregard Gasol's impressive play on the Lakers, Gasol and Melo have been comparable the last few years statistically, as indicated by aggregate measures such as PER, WS, and WSAA. I would even say it favors Gasol by a slight bit. Going further back, Melo as a rookie/sophomore could not compare to Gasol.
Certainly, Melo is on another level as a scorer, but Gasol gets his on better efficiency. Gasol is also the better rebounder and shot blocker; in fact, despite being a big man, he's also better as a passer, collecting more assists with far fewer turnovers.
Melo is much more valuable because of his age and potential, but he isn't much better than Gasol, if at all.

TY Shawn for mentioning age. At this point, they are roughly even but Anthony is four years younger. Gasol is roughly at the zenith of his career and is likely to slide a little in a year or two, Anthony can still improve and has another 4-6 of top performance before the wear starts getting to him (in both cases assuming no serious injury of course)

Gasol has a better all-around game, he's a better defender, a somewhat better rebounder, and a better passer. But Melo is the far superior scorer and overall offensive player. I think Melo is the better player overall.

melo is a better scorer, i wouldn't call him a better overalll offensive player at all. gasol seamlessly integrated himself into an already elite offense. he plays well with kobe, he plays very well with lamar, and basically makes everyone better while they make him better. melo, on the other hand, is an iso type of player who can't seem to play a fluid offensive game with other weapons like iverson, jr smith, camby, etc.
offensively, i'd take melo on nba 2k8, i take gasol in real life.

If you're looking for objective opinions on Melo you've come to the wrong place, IMO.

hmmmm. Gasol, who can't create his own shots and has had a reputation for laziness or Melo with his horrible defense and all that baggage?
I'd take Gasol.
He fits within the team conccept. Melo, on the other hand, destroys it. I don't care who you are, you put 5 outright all-stars with ridiculous talent on a team...if they don't play together and all lack leadership qualities, they will NEVER win a championship.
see Denver.
Sure, Melo has more "raw talent"...but he doesn't know how to channel it.
