Interesting. They were pretty different players. Perkins was alot bigger (in terms of mass). Kukoc was a better ball-handler and more of a facilitator. Perkins wasn't a great rebounder (he was good though), but could play center and could draw the bigman out of the paint with his long range shot. Kukoc was an inch taller than Sam, but played more like a swingman than Sam did.
Comes down to team needs I'd say. Kukoc probably has the better legacy due to his overseas exploits (Remember "The Euro Magic Johnson"?). But Perkins had a long, productive career as well.

Their offensive numbers in the NBA were about even. Kukoc's rep in Europe was mainly hype based on his future talent, he was in the NBA by age 25 (Perkins started at age 23) and played 12 years (Perkins 16). Despite Perkins's greater time as a veteran insurance policy, their career ppg was about average. Perkins was the PF and the better rebounder, Kukoc was the swing man and the better playmaker. Offensively, they are about even.
Defensively, Perkins was a very good defender, Kukoc was not. Game to Perkins.
