As a Prospect: Beaseley vs. Darko?

I know it's going to be hard, but try not to take into considering any of the nba time darko has, just strictly view him as the prospect in 2003.

With that said, would would be considered the better prospect between the two, and

if they were coming out at the same time, which would go first based on their Pre-draft potential/hype: Beasely or Milicic?

Also, comparing their overall games, how similar were they?

Um not similar at all.

Beasley supposed to be a much better scorer then Darko ever was supposed to be.

Beasley has the potential to average 30 ppg in the league. Darko wasn't ever expected to do that.

Beasley is getting hyped up to be "the other guy" in this draft. There always has to be one, even if there isn't really any doubt who the number 1 should be. It adds drama and suspense to the first pick, and helps the NBA get ratings for their draft.

Also 30 ppg? No way.

Beasley - best college player as a freshman, big man, skilled, athletic, superstar potential.

The other guy?

No doubt who it should be?

Did you watch the same College BBall season I just watched?

Are you implying that Derrick Rose is hands down a better pro prospect than Beasley? If so that is a joke.

Darko was a better prospect. He was supposed to be a tough defender with Nowitzki's skills and more of an inside game. Only a super #1 like LeBron could have kept him out of the top spot.

Darko's most coveted feature was supposed to be his mobility. He was supposed to be a decent size center with the agility of a cat and the gracefulness of a ballerina. If they were in the same draft, I think at least half of the teams would have picked him over Beasley, as they did over Bosh/Wade/Melo.

Darko had a higher upside due to his combo of size and athleticism, but Beasley is the better prospect.

Beasley has been the #1 prospect all year, putting up scary numbers and carrying an at best mediocre Kansas State team. He can come in and give Chicago a #1 scoring option or Miami a #2 option capable of putting up 20 points and 10 rebounds right away. Frankly, it would be a huge mistake for Chicago to pass on yet another potential inside scorer. He should go #1.

As compared to Darko, Beasley is the superior prospect. Darko had the potential to be great do to his size, age, and basketball skills, but he was not a college prospect, not the most dominating player in college. Beasley is not as big as Darko, but is far more athletic, more skilled, and a dominant college player. Beasley has to be considered far less likely to bust as compared to Darko coming into the league.

More Hype: Darko
More risk: Darko
More potential: Darko had it

Better prospect: Beasley

almost exactly the same as darko vs then college superstar melo

darko wins for quite a few teams in the nba.

there are probably a few that had carmelo ranked higher thou.

Darko was an amazing prospect, to put it simple.

He was hyped up as this amazing player on offense, a 7 footer who can dominate in the paint as well as shoot from outside, even the 3 point line. He was supposedly very agile, mobile, with great defensive abilities.

Without LeBron and maybe Carmelo in that draft, Darko would've gone #1.

It wasn't a matter of Darko being the better prospect for the Pistons, it was a question of need. They had JUST drafted Prince and weren't about to pick Melo to play the same position, I think you're forgetting just how much of a stud Melo was coming into the NBA.

Btw it's Beasley and it's not even really that debatable.

Exactly. There is no way a team would have taken some kid from overseas after the season that Beasley had.

This is a complete joke. Not to mention that Darko was not some consensus top 2 pick. Most teams thought this draft was about Lebron and Melo and the rest.

That Darko move was a joke of a pick. But perhaps it worked out after all with a defensive oriented SF in Prince.

Purely as a prospect.....Darko by a longshot

Darko was supposed to be an absolute game-changer. Lockdown defense and silky-smooth offense. NBADraft.net had him going #1 over LeBron even weeks before the draft. His one knock was always "not NBA ready; raw," but he was seen as a far, far, far better prospect than Chris Bosh, etc.

Beasley is hyped as a Carmelo-Jamison Hybrid.

Darko was 17 yrs old and at that time the younger the better. With a 19yr old rule I believe alot of Darkos apeal would have worn off.

Theres alot of ??? about Beasley. Is he 6'9" or 6'7"?? Is he a PF or SF? Is he the next K Malone or Clearance Weatherspoon?

Ill admit I havent seen Beasley play much but he did play in the Big 12 which is a very weak conferance and historical for NBA busts/disapointments.

That is completely erroneous. LeBron was seen as a tier above Carmelo, and Darko was the wild card. Granted, he is one of the biggest busts in NBA History, but in terms of pure prospect potential, he was as high as anyone. Chad Ford, et al. were pushing hard for him to go before LeBron, and Carmelo was always on the outside looking in.

I think Carmelo was a higher rated prospect than Beasley, to be honest.

Are you serious? 6'7? Beasley is closer to 6'10 than he is to anything below 6'9

The Big 12 a weak conference? IT was the #1/#2 conference in terms of RPI depending on what rankings you looked at. It had the best compliation of post players in terms of rankings in the nation.

He is clearly a 4 at the next level. His post skills are marture beyond his years.

I don't see how you could make that assessment.

Beasley was a better scorer, better rebounder, better everything his one year in school.

In the NBA he had a more defined position at a position that is desired more.

It's amazing how many people are hating on Beasley.
