Lol, seriously...they were similar and close at certain parts of the game. Both were leaders of very great teams, and again all rounded players. But in the end I'd rather have Dr J then Clyde, even though he was a very good player.

This one is definitely closer than Drexler vs Pierce, but yeah it's Dr. J. Theyre in the same realm. Drexler was a better playmaker, and theyre both similar in rebounding ability, but Dr. J was a more efficient scorer for sure.

And yea this is a good comparison. Compared player-to-player, they are very similar. Drexler more swingman, erving more pure foward, though they could play the other's role very well, too. Good defenders, get steals and blocks. Good rebounders, though i give the edge to erving. and good passers and playmakers, very unselfish, and good leaders. Drexler had better assist numbers in his prime years, so yea, edge to him for playmaking, though erving was great as well. Very complete players, freak athletes. Drexler i think had a more complete scoring package, where he could score from anywhere on the floor and was a bit better distance shooter, but erving was better at the spots on the floor that he used, and was thus more efficient.

Again, i say Erving, but its actually closer than i originally thought it'd be.

I'd say Erving, I think he was more dominant overall ion both ends, but the difference isn't as much as one would think. Again, Drexler's career is somewhat underrated playing in the Jordan era and not being able to win the championship as the first option in Portland.

Clyde was a great player. But Dr. J was just a little better in every aspect of the game.

Dr. J - not comparable players IMO.

Erving trumps Drexler as far as accolades go (Even if you look only at his NBA days). Statistically in his peak AND his career he also holds advantages across the board (PER, ORTG, DRTG, OWS, DWS, TS, EFG...).

The only advantage Drexler holds over Dr. J is his playmaking ability.

I think Dr. J might be one of the most underrated players ever. I just wish there was more footage of his ABA days - from 72-76 he dominated statistically during his prime in a way that no other guard outside of MJ has ever done.

Meh - I meant to use swing. I was under the impression that he switched between G/F a la McGrady often.

The gap is so far between Clyde and DrJ that they cant see each other in line.

Okay here's all you need to know:

In their first year in the NBA the Nuggets were among the best teams in the league, the Nets were by far the worst. In the previous year, in the last year of the ABA, the Nets won the title, with the Nuggets as the runner up. The difference? In the ABA, the Nets had Erving who led the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals, in the NBA they didn't. No one has ever carried a team to such success leading the team in all facets of the game like Erving did that last year. And few have had the kind of best-team-in-league with him, worst-team-without impact Erving had.

So yeah, Drexler ain't even close.
