Who do you think is more important for his team?

Obviously Manu. When he's on, the Spurs are unbeatable.

Manu is more explosive, RIP is more consistent.. Depends on what player you're more interested in..

Manu is more important for his team, but you could make the case that both would be more valuable to the other team if they were to swap places. Rip would give the Spurs a more consistent scoring threat to avoid slumps, Manu would give the Pistons a more explosive scorer to take over games.

First off, just for the sake of clarity lets acknowledge that Kobe is in a class all his own, so I'm leaving him out of this entirely.

Manu, when healthy and on top of his game, is a top tier SG. You could make a case for a few guys being better but one way or another you'd agree he belongs in the discussion.

Rip is a 2nd tier guard. Very good, very consistent but not quite elite.

Personally, I'd take Rip over Manu; the pistons offensive is pretty much ran through Rip, while Manu rides the coat-tails of Tim Duncan. Hamilton is far more consistent and is a better defender, even though a hot Manu, no homo, is better than a hot Hamilton, no homo, the consistency of rip, for me at least, still trumps Manu's ability to win a game by himself.

Manu Ginobili is a slasher with an extremely streaky game, to the point where you don't know what you'll get. He is mainly a scorer, but he does other things well, such as handling the ball and defending.
He is a 'take over' kind of player when he is hot, but he also has nights where he looks like a benchwarmer or role player.

Richard Hamilton is a consistent shooter in the mold of Reggie Miller. He knows his limitations, for the most part, and he tries to do things he knows he can do. He isn't a "take over" player, but he also isn't streaky like Manu Ginobili. He is solid for 18 points a night with a few rebounds, but he doesn't really explode for 30+ points, often.

I would choose Manu Ginobili because he can create for himself, something I don't see Rip doing often.

Yeah, actually it was because of the way I broke it down.

I can't say Manu is a top tier SG and arguably as good or better than any other player at his position if I don't make it clear that Kobe is exempt from that statement.

The absurd part of all this is if I don't make that clear I'd get even more jack asses jumping all over me then I got for saying it. Ah well, such is life at RGM.
