Wilt VS Kobe's Image

Post#1 » by The Main Event » Wed Jun 4, 2008 8:02 pm

I just wanted to point something out. Obviously during the 60's an NBA players private life remained private (lack of media coverage compared to today) and it was a time where sexual promiscuity was not nearly as dangerous (before AIDS hit the scene); however, why is it that Kobe takes such heat for slaying some dragon in Colarado while Wilt's 20,000 mark isn't associated with having a negative impact on his career?
I understand that Kobe is married and that Wilt was single at the time but are Kobe's actions that much more absurd then Wilts?

Kobe Bryant - adulterer
Wilt Chamberlain - Nymphomaniac

If Wilt gets a free pass without having his name tarnished in the history books then neither should Kobe.

haha, why not? it's a valid point. More often then not i hear the Colorado incident come up when talking about something completely unrelated regarding Kobe. It's BS.
Why then do we not have this same moral conflict with Wilts actions? It's not like Nymphos are praised in North American culture any more than adulterers are.

Why not? It's not like not talking about it will hdie the fact that it happened.

For the same reason that 90% of the crap is written on these boards, because people are bored and want something different to talk about.

Wilt didn't do anything wrong..he was single, like you said..having sex is a normal part of life, and if you're able to have sex with as many women as possibly(without having to worry about diseases at the time), then you should do it..

Kobe isn't criticized for having sex..he's criticized for being a multiple time adulterer, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, for possibly raping a woman(nobody knows if he did, and that isn't the point here)..

there's nothing wrong with having sex with many women while you're single..

Kobe made the mistake of getting married way too early..if you're gonna make a commitment that early, you have to realize that you're gonna get looked at a certain way when you cheat on your wife, especially more than once..furthermore, the adultery isn't the main issue here, it's the alleged rape..

i agree but let's be honest here, the alleged rape charge was a complete joke. They found what, 12 different traces of semen in her panties? Hell, Wilts boys were probably in there too! haha. Why in the world would Kobe Bryant, NBA all star who could have ANY girl he wants need to rape a nobody-Colorado girl?

Most likely, the girl made the whole rape thing up. I read Kobe's police transcript; he said she wasn't even attractive and he jerked off after she left. haha

i'm sure the guys back in the day did dirt just like today's players do. difference is, today's media goes way out of their way to expose every tiny little thing famous people get caught up in.

A single man having consensual sex with willing women is not comparable to a married man committing adultery and alleged rape. So how exactly should Wilt's name be tarnished?

And neither one should have anything to do with anything when talking about what they did basketball-wise anyway.
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

Simple answer, INTERNET. It allows any and every person to get their opinion (good or bad) out to millions at the push of a button. From there it spreads like a California wildfire.

Wilt > God. That's why. Not only can Wilt do no wrong there's nothing he couldn't do either.

Wilt is GOAT. He is better than almost every basketball player back then. And players don't show off now?

Wilt was a lifelong bachelor for a reason. Kobe accepted the responsibility of marriage and then **** around. The two things aren't comparable.

As far as having his name "tarnished", Wilt had his critics but he was generally well-liked by everyone who met him. The biggest criticism was that he was too nice, he was loved by the fans because he always made himself accessible, he had dinners with Bill Russell. Kobe on the other hand, was a prick for most of his career. Had few friends because no one wanted to be around him on a personal level - the reason people don't like Kobe is that he isn't very likeable, has nothing to do with the internet or whatever other (Please Use More Appropriate Word) theory is being pushed. Everyone knew Rick Barry was a prick back then and people didn't like him for it, like Kobe though, they respected his talent.
