Derrick Rose = ?

Am I the only one who isn't buying into all the Derrick Rose hype? It seems with the emergence of Chris Paul and Deron Williams prospect point guards across the board are getting overrated...
I guess what I'm trying to say is that when I see Derrick Rose play right now I see more of a Devin Harris or Tony Parker type player rather than the aforementioned Paul or Williams. Some people have penciled Rose in for HOF greatness already but I don't see it...
With all of that being said, who do you (all) think Rose most closely compares to as a rookie? And what sort of player do you think he will become?

It'll be tough to tell until he actually plays in the league. I don't like comparing new players that haven't played a minute to old players that we've seen a lot of.
People have said a bigger/more athletic Harris/Parker, people have said a smaller Dwyane Wade, Jason Kidd, etc. Don't like those comparisons much. I think he'll put up around 21-24 ppg, 8-9 apg, 4-5 rpg, 1.5-2.5 spg, 45-48 FG%, with good to great defense in his best years.

I agree. I just can't see im as a 10+ APG PG. He doesn't remind me of Paul or Williams, more like Steve Francis. If he develops his offense more he may be a 25 PPG scorer, but as of right now I think he is a tad overhyped.

Harris/Parker have both been to the NBA Finals as a starting point gaurd.
Neither Deron nor Paul has.

I see him ending up around Deron Williams in a best case scenario.
Better at going to the hoop.
Worse 3pt shot.

Its too early to tell if how good he's going to be. He hasn't played a single game. Give the young kid some time

Ummm, this is a forum and thats what we do?
Anyways I like the Steve Francis mention. I was going to say a taller version of TJ Ford, but not sure what kind of playmaker he will be in the NBA.

He's built and plays just like Baron Davis did when he came out of UCLA.

...which is frightening, because, as amazing as Baron is, he has hardly lived up to his billing.

Neither Deron nor Paul has.
Certainly a great way to evaluate a player..

I was merely pointing out that OP's view on Rose is not so much of an indictment as he may have originally anticipated.

If you are looking at stats, prime Marbury. 21/4/8/1.5
If you are looking at just the game, it really depends how good Rose can become on offense.
Worst case you are probably looking at a Devin Harris-type player. Shaky midrange shot, doesn't always finish at the hoop, a PG but not with Kidd-like vision.
Best case, Deron is a good comparison (as someone alluded to).
