Kobe's Legacy? Is he any better than Clyde Drexler and Dirk

Im not being a hater here, just realistic. Kobe had 1 good game out of 6 which is not very good for a guy who is supposed to be the best player in the NBA and MVP. That's a major disappointment.
Im not even very upset about tonight's loss because Boston played exceptionally well, but i look back to those 2 winnable games in Game 1 and Game 4 and that's where we needed Kobe to be great. Both were winnable games and in both he shot horrible. Had Kobe played great in just 1 of those games and tonight's game just goes down as a loss and on to Game 7.
Being on the Clyde Drexler or Dirk Nowtiski level is not even a insult because Clyde was a great player and Dirk was MVP. He's simply not on the level of players like MJ, Magic and Bird.
Kobe has had 2 great games out of 10 in the NBA Finals
Game 2 vs Detroit in 2004
Game 3 vs Boston in 2008
That's not even James Worthy level.

No. Dirk is better. Give me Dirk.

Um, Kobe > MJ so of course.
Kobe is a better overall player than Dirk. Clyde? Possibly.

Lakers were up 24 in Game 4 and Kobe went 6-19
Game 1 Lakers were up 6 Mid 3rd quarter and he shot 9-27
Lamar was very good in Games 4 and 5
Gasol 4 and 5
Kobe was very good only in 1 game which was Game 3. He was actually more inconsistent then Lamar and Gasol in this series.

Greatest side kick ever?
If shack and him had gotten along it would just be unfair.

I just think he chokes on the big stage trying too hard to prove himself. He never even put together 2 good quarters in a row and would disappear for 2 or 3 quarters at a time. To shoot that bad and continue to shoot bad shots is pathetic. Compared to their regular season and earlier round performances Kobe was much worse than Gasol and Odom, and that doesn't even matter. He's the one everyone says is the best of his generation (not Lamar or Gasol) but he's disappeared big time in the finals.

I definitely thought Kobe was going to try and at least do what LeBron did to the Celtics in game 7 without half the supporting cast, and try to lead his team to victory at all cost...
However, I feel cheated that "the best player on the planet" didn't leave it all out there... He never got on his teammates, and he didn't even try to attack that basket...

I just didn't see the same desperation and being as relentless as Wade of 2 years ago and Lebron of last and this years playoffs. Both of those guys were finding ways to attack the rim and throw there bodies around. Just flat out attacking and not settling. Kobe just has this i give up approach about his game and starts taking 30 foot 3 pointers and not even trying to attack.

No better person then B-Scott to make this thread
Overreaction. Celtics have a HISTORIC defense, and this series they played phenomenally. Seriously, they close out on lanes/players like no other. Wade and T-Mac called them the best defense they've ever seen and I'm going to have to agree with that. I know people aren't fond of Hollinger but I think he might have called them the best defense ever.
But yeah, Kobe played very poorly today (and the series). Besides the beginning of the game, he was getting ripped, blocked, and shut down. He was a let down, but so was the rest of the team.....but I'm going to give more credit to the C's defense.
Please don't mention him in the same breath as Clyde and Dirk. You're only losing more credibility..... as if you afford to lose more.

He took 14 3pts in just the 1st quarter of the last two games. That's setting the wrong tone for the whole team, instead of being aggressive getting to the basket or trying to get teammates involved early he shoots all these 3's and jumpers that was my biggest problem with him this series as well not attacking at all (and please don't say he couldn't.. he did a very few times and took hits and got fouled or found teammates but too often just settled).

Great Post!!!
I agree with it. Kobe has been to 5 finals and doesn't really have any historic events happen.

My question to you is how is this thread far off?
Drexler in 1990 and 1992 led Portland to the NBA Finals, but loss to Detroit and Chicago
Dirk won the MVP in 2006 and led his team to the NBA Finals, but loss to Miami
To be honest im actually being nice because both Clyde and Dirk played better in there series. So i think its a fair comparison. Consider Kobe is the Lakers 1# option and compare his performance to other 1# options in the NBA Finals over the last 20 years.
His performances in the Finals has been among the worse among 1# options that made it to the Finals over the last 20 years.

That's the same thing they said when he played Detroit and played even worse. The same Detroit team Wade torched two years in a row. Turn Kobe into a jump shooter and everyone calls you the best D ever. The Boston players said they played the same D against Joe Johnson and Lebron and they were able to lead their much less talented teams to more wins.

This thread is borderline (Please Use More Appropriate Word)...
Yeah he didn't shoot well overall for the series but I he did a fine job playmaking and playing defense this whole series. Hard to drive on a box and 1 consistently with multiple guys showing whenever you touch the ball.
He just faced arguably the best defense I have ever seen. He'll be back though, he always does.

Do me a favor, look up both of thsoe defenses numbers and testimonials people were giving before they played Kobe. Then come back to me, thank you.

It wasnt the same pistons post larry brown and you can go ask pistons fans right now, they were not the same defensive team under flip saunders and also the hand check rule came after 2004, both important factors.
But in no way am i defending either performance.
