The best offensive TEAM you can build

Post#1 » by ronnymac2 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 2:26 pm

Select 5 players who would make up a great offensive team. Don't worry about defense. This is strictly making an offense. Make sure the team goes together well. You need to account for offensive rebounding, passing, clutchness, shooting from different spots on the floor, post-ups, midrange game, 3pt shooting, moving without the ball, offensive chemistry, free throw shooting, ability to get to the line, and style of the offense.

And there is a restriction. You can't use Wilt, Shaq, Hakeem, or Kareem. See, I saved you time.... no shaq or wilt means no hack-a-shaq or hack-a-wilt. lol

I'm going the obvious route for most of the team, and will take the Big Three of Magic, Michael, and Larry. My frontline was going to be Hakeem at PF and Kareem, but they aren't available. So I'll be a little different and take Tim Duncan and Bob McAdoo.

Wilt, Hakeem and Kareem aren't available, so it's /thread as to reading comprehension from kooldude, Suigintou and you.

Steve Nash
Michael Jordan
Larry Bird
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan

all these guys can score, the two big men can compliment each other beautifully as they can both go down low and draw a double, both can step out and hit jumpers, but most importantly they are brilliant passers that will get the other guys who are offensive monsters the ball in their spots.

Michael's driving lanes will be wide open with all of the guys being able to shoot, and having two deadly shooters on the outside.

I just really wanted to incorporate Duncan and Garnett for passing, here is one with no regard for positions.

Michael Jordan
Larry Bird
Dirk
Karl Malone
Tim Duncan

SF Larry Bird
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Kevin McHale

Magic is the best passer ever, and the best break leader.

Bird is the best passer ever with a post player's skills.

McHale is the best post scorer not on the forbidden list.

McHale and Bird are proven to be good on the break. Jordan obviously has the skills to be exceptional on the break.

On the break, Magic leads, Jordan and Dirk are the finishers, Bird is the spot-up guy, and McHale is the trailer (he excelled at tip-ins).

In the half court I'd try for an entry-pass to McHale, as that's a super high-percentage opportunity. Options are direct from Magic or Magic-Bird-McHale. It would be hard to shut down both of those without leaving Jordan loosely covered (deadly) or Dirk uncovered at the 3-pt line (ditto).

If none of that worked, I'd try two-man ball with Jordan and Bird, whether pick-and-roll or give-and-go. And if that's well-covered on one side, McHale or Dirk should gain be open on the other. Bird and Dirk can also interchange roles, as can Bird and Magic.

Nash - I put him on the team over Magic so the team could have better spacing in the half-court
Mike - Duh
Dirk - Another shooter, massive mismatch at the 3
