Corey Maggette vs. James Posey

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Wed Jul 2, 2008 4:33 pm

both prime MLE type of free agents this summer. which of the two would your team take?

for the lakers i'd take james posey. he provides the defense and outside shooting that the team would need from the 3 spot. magz is inferior at both those skills.

easily Maggette..we need scoring..

the Spurs system masks defenses..Parker, Ginobili, Oberto..the worst defender in the NBA Finley..

so while Posey is one of the better role players in the NBA, we need Maggette..

for any team, I'd take Maggette as my #1-4 option..but if I need a role player, it's easily Posey..

Bulls hate Posey so this is a no brainer.

Posey is a complete role player. Unless your team has a solid core of guys then i would take Magz.

Easily Magette on most teams he has the tools to be the 3rd scoring option. Great rebounder, scorer, and can slash to the hole very nicely. So for the Rockets I'd take Magette easily.

Raptors have essentially dleaguers playing on the wing compared to other teams, so Maggette would be a HUGE upgrade, and even that, is an understatement

Maggette is the better and more talented player. I would rather have Posey on my team 9 out of 10 times though. Maggette is the type of player who needs to be the number 1 option to be effective. He also needs the ball in his hands. The only things he could really do are scoring and getting to the free throw line. I would rather have Posey than Maggette on every team except Minnesota, Memphis, and Indiana.

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball ... ll/?page=2 suggests the Celtics have now made offers to both Maggette and Posey, and the one to Maggette is bigger.

On our team I would say Maggette easily. We need a 3rd scorer badly and Maggette will give us that.

They are 2 different kind of players altogether.

One's an all around offensive player, that will give you at least 12-15 pts a night, get to the line plenty a nite, takes it to the hoop and rebound well for you, too.

The other is one of the best role players this league has. He gives you excellent defense, good rebounding, hits the shots he gets when the d sags in on his team's offensive threats, and he's a proven playoff performer in the clutch.

If my team is need of that ultimate role player who can help me get over the top, I'm going with Posey. If I need scoring and 2nd/3rd option type player, I'm going with Maggette.

I'd really like Maggette in NO, we were already really good defensively with Mo-Pete and Peja as our wings, and we could use a guy who can make his own shot in the starting line up, and we were pretty low on getting to the foul line IIRC.

Maggs is a much better player than posey. Hes a scorer who doesnt have to jack up 20 shots to get 20 points in a game. He gets to the line and can rebound decently. Posey can hit the three and eat burgers.

Toronto badly need a slasher at a wing position, so this is Maggette easily for the Raps. We need a perimiter defender too, but not as badly as we need a slasher.

Maggette would be perfect for New Jersey.

1 - Harris/Williams
2 - Carter
3 - Maggette
4 - Yi/Williams
5 - Lopez/Boone

I'd take him over Posey easily for NJN.

IMO Maggette is worse than his numbers would seem to indicate. He's obviously very talented and a very good one on one player, but his low bball IQ impact his team play. He can put up some nice stats, but can also disrupt his own teams offense, not necessarily because he's selfish but just because he displays such poor recognition. Defensively he's a good man to man defender (when he tries) but a pretty horrible team defender, again, because those sort of concepts just go right over his head.

Posey is a guy who's impact vastly exceeds his statline. He's got a very high bball IQ and does lots of little things to contribute to winning bball. And he's fairly clutch as far as role players go, and has already shown he can fit in seemlessly on multiple championship caliber teams.

I'll take Posey every single time.

Give me Posey on the Wizards. Tough perimeter defender, 3 point shooter, basically a great glue guy to have off the bench.
