When Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain on the same team...

Post#1 » by andykeikei » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:15 am

It happened before...in the all star game of the 60's.
Did any one see those games? I wonder how they played together. Who's the C? PF?
I thought people took it much more serious about the all star game than they do now. It is quite interesting to see if they play well alongside each other.

^^^Actually, If i recall right, a team with elgin baylor, the big o, nate thurmond, and jerry west did beat them. lol But yea, wilt and russell playing together would be insanely awesome. I kinda can't wait to read what people who might have seen that combo in action have to say.

If I hadda guess though, it'd be like having shaq and tim duncan in their primes in the western conference all-star teams, except the all-star game was taken seriously in the 60's.

More like having Shaq and Hakeem on the same team since both were used to playing center. I am curious too about whether they played much together and how the team worked when they did.

Remember, Wilt and Nate Thurmond played together for a short stretch when Nate first came into the league and it was a disaster (though injuries and other problems were more to blame than talent fitting together most likely)

From the stats, it seemed they did play together for a short time since Wilt always had like 30ish mintues and Bill had around 22. It would be good though if someone saw those games give us some of his insight.

Well Wilt only played one full season with Thurmond which happened to be Thurmond's ROOKIE season where he only averaged 7/10.

He played with a baby version of Billy Cunningham as well.

That's the type of luck Wilt ran into in his career.

on the other hand, by his own account he got lucky about 10,000 times so he can't complain too much
