Manu Ginobili vs. Kobe Bryant

Post#1 » by Kabookalu » Thu Mar 26, 2009 5:44 am

Note, this isn't a direct comparison but a comparison of their footwork. I was having an argument with my friend today in class about footwork. I brought up how I thought Ginobili had the best footwork in the league for any shooting guard, he disagreed and him being a Lakers fan, said Kobe. We kind of went back and forth on it.

So strictly in terms of footwork, who is better?

Ginobili has that "euro two (or three, forgot what it's called)-step"; works like a charm when he's penetrating.

I say Kobe has better low post footwork.

Ginobili in my opinion. Kobe's fast but hes never really done anything impressive in terms of getting by people with his moves or shaking guys off. I never thought him to be that creative on his drives at all. .Which is why he's had to settle for so many jumpers and fadeaways throughout his career.

Kobe's footwork is the best in the league IMO.

Thing of beauty. I can't think of anyone else in the league who could get this shot off, let alone drain it.

Because he's one of the best shooters in history with a hand in his face?

Look at the skill in his footwork to get that shot off without traveling.

That too- but the reason Kobe can get his shot off effortlessly, even when defenders play up on him and know that he's going to take a jumper, is because of his footwork.

The way I've heard the euro 2-step described, it's a travel. Also, I remember last year's playoff when Kobe annihilated Manu with a filthy up and under.

Kobe isn't creative on his drives? If Kobe isn't creative on his drives, who is? Kobe probably has the best footwork for a wing player in the NBA right now. Kobe hasn't always settled for jumpers and fadeaways throughout his career either, for the first few years in his career he was considered to be one of if not the best player in the league at breaking his man down off the dribble.

Kobe and Duncan have the best footwork in the NBA. Footwork is one of the main reasons why Kobe is one of the best player in the NBA. He's not exceptionally quick, he can't jump through the roof, and he's not freakishly athletic like James or Wade, but he's still widely considered a top 3 player. What separates Kobe from everyone else is his refined skill. His game is polished in every aspect of basketball. There is not one facet of the game that Kobe hasn't worked extremely hard to improve to the best of his ability. He is a master of using footwork, fakes, position and crafty moves to become an unguardable scorer. Ginobili is very good at creating space and finishing around the basket, but when it comes to footwork, there isn't a guard on the planet who matches up to Kobe Bryant.

+1 Kobe

Wait really? Kobe is highly skilled but even though he's not in his athletic prime anymore, he's still a freak of an athlete.

maybe compared to the general public, but he isn't an elite athlete in the NBA anymore

Well maybe not in the top tier, but he is still a freak of an athlete. Other than the Raptors, the team I watch the most are the Lakers and Kobe can just blow by you like that and can still get up there.
