Who was the better player and who would you choose for your team if you were a GM?

I'd take Tim Duncan over David Robinson EASILY. Duncan is a playoff constant for your team on both offense and defense. Robinson is only a constant on defense.
Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river

Depends what I would know as GM. As rookie - Robinson, but if I would know everything we do know now - Duncan. Injury really harmed DRob, otherwise his career would probably be even better than TD.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

I'd take Prime Duncan but it's pretty close.

Duncan is a once in a quarter century type player. Robinson was phenomenal player and worthy of all the accolades he gets, but Duncan is a freak of freaks.

Regular season, I'm fairly tempted to pick Robinson, who was an excellent volume scorer (which isn't Duncan's forte). Bring the playoffs into it and it's Duncan, handily.

Here's a question. Would Hakeem have so brutally ravaged a prime Tim Duncan in 94-95?

Probably haha...

But honestly, I don't see what Duncan could've done better than Robinson ... Robinson was way more athletic than Duncan ever was, and probably a better defender ... and even he couldn't keep up with Hakeem ... nobody could during that run in '95 ...

prime duncan would just not jump on many of them stupid pumpfakes hakeem did on drob....

and he probably let hakeem torched him while the rest of the team clamp down on 4 other players...just like against amare and the suns in 05

i take drob for regular season, playoffs i take duncan...

I'll be the contrarian that says prime DRob over prime Duncan. DRob was just a better all-around player. His big curses were the injuries and the lack of supporting talent compared to other playoff teams of that era.

I'm usually the guy who defends DRob in these kinds of threads, but I'd take Duncan.

I think you have it mistaken. Drob is the freak of freaks. The man was a complete freak of nature and put up ridiculous stat lines (one of four people ever to record a quadruple double). The responses in this thread are what I expected, most guys pick the guy with more rings. Robinson was the better player statistically and could not be stopped in his prime. I doubt Timmy wins a ring during Hakeem and Mj's era either. I'm gonna take Drob.

This is a cop-out. Yeah, DRob put up some freakish stats, but he was so limited as a player. Duncan's main advantage is the fact that he has a legitimate post game. Admiral faced up a lot more, and he was really good at it, but in the playoffs when adjustments are constantly being made Robinson started having trouble.

The wierd thing is if the Admiral had more passion for basketball he would have been an absolute beast. I've never seen a player with his size and athleticism, and that includes Dwight Howard.

Come on Drob once scored 71 pts......

Seems like 81 gets lots of runtime.

I think Duncan is a better playoff performer, but people make it seem like the gap is much bigger than what it actually was. Up until Robinson's injury his playoff stats were every bit as good as Duncan's.

Duncan has not had a single season where he has exceeded Robinson's career averages in steals or blocks. And that includes the year where he was just a shelf of his former self. This isn't really evidence of who is the better player. I just thought it was an incredible stat.
